Sora, Kairi, Riku, and Roxas all appear, and the trailer settles a question fans had been asking since the teasers dropped.

Every skin comes from Kingdom Hearts II
The footage confirms all four designs are pulled specifically from Kingdom Hearts II.
Roxas made his full debut in Kingdom Hearts II, headlining its opening hours in Twilight Town before the story hands off to Sora. This is why he can appear with the others.
It also means Sora appears in his KH2 outfit rather than the 2002 original, which matches the key art Epic released back in August.
The trailer recreates the series’ box art
The best moment arrives at the very end.
Kingdom Hearts has one of the most recognizable covers in gaming, with Sora, Kairi, and Riku positioned together on a structure above a stylized background.
Epic rebuilds that image inside Fortnite. Instead of a tower, the three of them are perched on a massive player-built fort.
It is a small joke that only works if you know both franchises, which is roughly the entire audience for this collaboration.
The trailer also opens on the Destiny Islands beach, the starting location of the first game.
The Keyblade is a playable weapon, not just a pickaxe
A Kingdom Key Mythic weapon is expected to arrive alongside the skins, letting players actually wield Sora’s Keyblade in matches. Its abilities have not been detailed.
That puts Kingdom Hearts into gameplay rather than leaving it as a wardrobe option, which is a meaningfully bigger deal for a licensing arrangement involving Disney characters.
Separately, the Keyblade pickaxe Epic teased earlier replaces the weapon’s traditional Mickey Mouse charm with a Loot Llama. That swap has been visible since the key art and remains unexplained by anyone involved.
When the skins go live
The cosmetics arrive when the Item Shop resets.
Pacific, September 17 at 5:00 p.m.
Mountain, September 17 at 6:00 p.m.
Central, September 17 at 7:00 p.m.
Eastern, September 17 at 8:00 p.m.
The launch coincides with Fortnite’s v42.20 update, the major patch for Chapter 7 Season 4.
Pricing has not been announced
The remaining unknowns are financial.
Epic has not revealed what any individual skin costs, or whether the four characters will be sold together in a bundle at a discount.
Fortnite Item Shop skins from major licensed properties typically land between 1,500 and 2,000 V-Bucks, though Epic has not confirmed anything for this collaboration. Bundles, when offered, usually include extras like back blings, emotes, or wraps.
Whether the Kingdom Key Mythic is free to all players or tied to a purchase also has not been stated, though Mythic weapons in Fortnite are normally gameplay items available to everyone rather than paid cosmetics.
Seven months from leak to launch
The crossover first surfaced in leaks back in February 2026, and spent most of the year as an unconfirmed rumor.
Dataminers turned up pieces of it repeatedly, including a Gummi Ship vehicle, without ever pinning down Sora. The reason was ownership. Sora is co-owned by Disney and Square Enix, which requires two sets of approvals rather than one.
There was a brief scare in August, when Epic’s Override season trailer did not feature Sora at all and several outlets reported the collaboration missing. The finished season key art, released shortly after, showed him plainly.
Epic confirmed it officially on September 13, and now it has a date.
