Wear a costume to a participating Krispy Kreme on Oct. 30 or 31 and get a free Original Glazed or Classic Ring doughnut, no purchase needed. The $13 Lab Dozen ends Thursday.
Krispy Kreme is giving away doughnuts for Halloween, and the only price of entry is a costume. Show up dressed up at a participating U.S. shop on Friday, Oct. 30, or Saturday, Oct. 31, and you can get a free Original Glazed or Classic Ring doughnut.
No purchase is needed, Krispy Kreme said in its Oct. 12 announcement.
The same announcement brought a short-run dozen built around the chain’s Looney Tunes collab. That one is almost gone. It ends Thursday, Oct. 15.
How does Krispy Kreme’s free Halloween doughnut work?
Wear a costume, walk into a participating Krispy Kreme shop in the U.S. on either day and ask for your doughnut. You pick between an Original Glazed and a Classic Ring.
Krispy Kreme didn’t spell out what counts as a costume. A full Bugs Bunny suit clearly qualifies. A cat-ear headband is probably a judgment call at the counter, so go a little bigger if you want to be safe.
Only participating shops honor it, so check before you go. Krispy Kreme’s Halloween page has a shop finder for its Looney Tunes promotion, and the company says any shop missing from that list isn’t participating.
What is the Krispy Kreme Looney Tunes Lab Dozen?
It’s a $13 dozen sold at participating U.S. shops from Tuesday, Oct. 13, through Thursday, Oct. 15, only. That works out to about $1.08 a doughnut.
Inside the custom Halloween box:
Nine Green Original Glazed doughnuts
Three new Looney Tunes Lab Doughnuts
The Lab Doughnut starts as a Green Original Glazed doughnut. It gets dipped in neon green icing, topped with cookies and creme flavored buttercreme, then finished with chocolate cookie pieces, sprinkles and an icing drizzle.
Sporked’s Jay Wilson called it a “nice choice” for anyone throwing a party this week who wants some variety. Krispy Kreme’s announcement didn’t mention delivery for the Lab Dozen, only in-shop sales.
What’s in Krispy Kreme’s Looney Tunes Halloween collection?
Four character doughnuts, made with Warner Bros. The collection launched Oct. 6, and the Lab Dozen was built to go with it:
Bugs Bunny Vampire: an unglazed shell filled with chocolate dulce Kreme, dipped in red icing, with chocolate drizzles and bat sprinkles
Tweety and Sylvester Pumpkin: an Original Glazed doughnut dipped in candy corn icing and confetti sprinkles
Taz Mummy: an unglazed shell filled with OREO cookies and Kreme, with chocolate icing and green drizzles
Lola Bunny Witch: an Original Glazed doughnut with a purple buttercreme flavored swirl and gold star sprinkles
Each one gets a sugar topper of the character in costume. The Bugs, Taz and Tweety and Sylvester doughnuts also come in a grocery six-pack at select retailers, including Walmart, Kroger, Publix and Stater Bros., Krispy Kreme says.
Krispy Kreme hasn’t announced an end date for the main collection. It’s a limited-time run, so the week of Halloween is a gamble if you want all four.
Is Krispy Kreme doing more Looney Tunes doughnuts?
Krispy Kreme hasn’t said. Sporked’s Jay Wilson wondered out loud whether a new set might drop every week until Halloween, and nobody at Krispy Kreme has answered that one yet.
The chain has stayed busy with team-ups all year, though. Before Looney Tunes, Sporked counts collabs with SpongeBob, Milk Bar and Pokemon.
Are there other Halloween doughnut deals this week?
Dunkin’ rolled out its own Halloween lineup on Wednesday, Oct. 14. The Spider Donut is back nationwide, and the purple Halloween Munchkins bucket now glows in the dark, with $2 from each one going to the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation.
Dunkin’ is also giving away a plush Bat Cup Sleeve on Friday, Oct. 16, with any Berry Battie Daydream Refresher, while supplies last at participating locations.
How old are Krispy Kreme and Looney Tunes?
Older than most of the people who’ll show up in costume. Looney Tunes started in 1930. Krispy Kreme opened in 1937 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and today it’s based in Charlotte.
Bugs Bunny came a little later. His official debut was A Wild Hare in 1940, which puts the rabbit in the vampire cape at 86 years old this Halloween.
Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, so the free doughnut can double as breakfast before the trick-or-treating starts.
