Lay’s new Holi-Lay’s lineup includes chocolate-covered Wavy chips in milk chocolate and a Dubai-style dark chocolate with pistachios, plus three savory holiday flavors.
Lay’s is dipping its chips in chocolate for the holidays.
The snack brand’s new Holi-Lay’s lineup includes two sweet treats: Lay’s Wavy Milk Chocolate and Lay’s Wavy Dubai-Style Dark Chocolate, according to Allrecipes. Both arrive in late November.
They’re part of five new limited-edition flavors coming to stores nationwide this holiday season.
What are Lay’s Wavy Milk Chocolate chips?
Chocolate-covered potato chips. Lay’s coats its salty, ridged Wavy chips in a layer of milk chocolate.
Allrecipes writer Bailey Fink tried them early and called them “the true winner“ of her taste test. She said the chips have a “decently thick milk chocolate coating“ that pairs well with the salty chip underneath.
She compared them to the chocolate-covered chips sold at Sarris Candies, a candy shop in the Pittsburgh area.
What are Lay’s Wavy Dubai-Style Dark Chocolate chips?
Lay’s take on a viral treat. These Wavy chips are coated in dark chocolate, with crunchy pistachios on the outside, according to Allrecipes.
Dubai chocolate took over social media in recent years. The original candy bars are filled with pistachio cream and crispy shredded pastry, and the flavor has since popped up in everything from cookies to lattes.
Allrecipes didn’t taste-test the Dubai-style version, so we’ll have to wait for reviews when it hits stores.
Are chocolate-covered potato chips new?
Not for candy shops, but they are for Lay’s. Allrecipes called the two chocolate flavors Lay’s “first-of-their-kind“ sweet potato chips.
Chocolate-dipped chips have been a sweet-and-salty favorite at local candy makers for years. Now fans can find a version in the regular chip aisle.
When do the Lay’s chocolate chips come out?
In late November, according to Allrecipes. Lay’s hasn’t announced an exact date or price yet.
Both chocolate flavors are limited-edition, so they won’t stick around long after the holidays.
What other Holi-Lay’s flavors are coming?
Three savory ones inspired by holiday dinners. Cheddar Scalloped-Style Potatoes and Roasted Holiday Turkey hit shelves in late October, Allrecipes reported.
Maple Bacon follows on Sunday, Nov. 8. Allrecipes described it as equal parts sweet and savory, with maple syrup and smoky bacon flavors.
What do the savory Holi-Lay’s chips taste like?
Better than you might expect. Fink said she was nervous about a turkey chip, but it tasted more like the herbs used on a turkey, especially rosemary and sage.
She called the Maple Bacon chips “the perfect balance of sweet and savory.”
The Cheddar Scalloped-Style Potatoes chips have a bold, cheesy flavor inspired by the classic side dish. Allrecipes didn’t try that one early.
Has Lay’s made holiday chips before?
Yes. Lay’s has brought back Crunch Tators, the chips made famous in Home Alone, and has released Salted Caramel chips for the season, Allrecipes noted.
This year, Lay’s is going bigger with five new flavors at once, Allrecipes noted.
Where can you buy Holi-Lay’s chips?
At stores nationwide. All five flavors will be available at retailers across the country for a limited time, according to Allrecipes.
Some stores already list the savory flavors online. The 7.75-ounce Roasted Holiday Turkey bag has shown up at grocery chains including Pavilions and Randalls.
How should you serve chocolate potato chips?
Any way you like. They’re an easy addition to a holiday dessert board next to cookies and fudge.
You could also crumble them over vanilla ice cream or pack a bag into a holiday gift basket. For a sweet-and-salty party mix, toss them with pretzels and popcorn.
