Royal Caribbean’s newest Icon-class ship pulled into Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 7 for its first U.S. visit. Here’s when it sails, where it goes and how long it stays.
The newest giant in Royal Caribbean’s fleet is finally in Florida. Legend of the Seas, the third Icon-class ship, pulled into Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026. It’s the ship’s first visit to the United States.
It got the full welcome, too. Cruise Hive reports the ship arrived shortly after 9 a.m., citing the Cruise Ship Tracker, and tugboats greeted it with the traditional water salute.
“We’re proud to welcome Legend of the Seas to Fort Lauderdale today after an incredible inaugural season in Europe,” Royal Caribbean president and CEO Michael Bayley said, per Cruise Hive.
Broward County Mayor Mark D. Bogen was just as glad to see it. “We are pleased to welcome Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas to Broward County,” he said.
Here’s a full ship tour from Royal Caribbean Blog, filmed during the ship’s first summer in Europe:
When does Legend of the Seas sail from Fort Lauderdale?
Fast. The ship gets basically one night off. Its first Florida sailing leaves Sunday, Nov. 8, on a three-night trip to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas. It comes back to Port Everglades on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
That’s naming day. Royal Caribbean will hold the ship’s naming ceremony at Port Everglades on Nov. 11, Cruise Critic reports.
The godmother is retired U.S. Air Force Gen. Lori J. Robinson. TravelPulse notes she was the first woman to lead a U.S. combatant command. Quite the resume for a bottle-smashing gig.
After the ceremony, Legend heads out on a second three-night CocoCay trip. Then regular service starts.
What itineraries does Legend of the Seas sail this winter?
Legend does things a little differently from its sisters. Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas sail seven-night trips from Florida. Legend will swap between eight-night and six-night sailings instead, according to Cruise Critic.
8-night Southern Caribbean: the first one leaves Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026, with stops that include Curacao and Aruba (Cruise Critic).
6-night Western Caribbean: the first one on Cruise Critic’s list leaves Sunday, Dec. 6, 2026.
CocoCay on every trip: DataPortuaria reports every six-night and eight-night sailing includes a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Cruise Critic also says Legend is the first Icon-class ship and the largest ship ever to homeport in Fort Lauderdale. Broward finally gets its turn.
How long will Legend of the Seas stay in Florida?
Only through spring. Cruise Critic lists a 14-night transatlantic crossing from Fort Lauderdale on April 25, 2027, and says the ship sails back to Europe in May 2027.
To get here, the ship left Barcelona on Oct. 25, Cruise Hive reports. On Nov. 5, it made a short detour toward Puerto Rico so the U.S. Coast Guard could airlift a passenger. Cruise Hive says the detour didn’t delay the ship’s arrival.
What’s on board Legend of the Seas?
A lot. The ship has eight neighborhoods, according to DataPortuaria. A few standouts:
Category 6: billed as the largest water park at sea, up on Thrill Island.
Crown’s Edge: a skywalk and zip line hanging 154 feet above the ocean.
Royal Railway, Legend Station: an immersive “Silk Routes” experience.
Shows: a stage version of Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” plus “America’s Got Talent LIVE.”
Hollywoodland Supper Club: a multi-course dinner experience.
Category 6 and Crown’s Edge are Icon-class staples, so fans of Icon of the Seas will feel at home.
How big is Legend of the Seas?
Huge, in a word. Cruise Hive puts it at 5,610 passengers. Wikipedia’s entry, which lists 5,610 as the double-occupancy figure, puts the maximum at about 7,600 guests, with a crew of around 2,350. It runs roughly 1,197 feet long.
You’ll see Legend called “the world’s largest cruise ship” a lot this week. We couldn’t find a confirmed size edge for Legend over Star of the Seas, so call it a tie at the top.
Where did Legend of the Seas come from?
Finland. Like every Icon-class ship, Legend was built at the Meyer Turku shipyard. It started sailing in July 2026 out of Barcelona and Rome, making it the first Icon-class ship to debut in Europe.
And the Icon family isn’t done growing. Cruise Hive reports the next sister, Hero of the Seas, is set to debut from Miami in August 2027. Florida’s ports are going to need more tugboats.
