Disney’s live-action Tangled, starring Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim, is wrapping up filming in Spain. Here’s the March 2028 release date, the cast and what fans saw at D23.
Rapunzel’s lanterns are almost ready to float again.
Disney’s live-action Tangled appears to be wrapping up production in Spain.
Twins Hugo and Patrick McPherson, who play the Stabbington brothers, posted their own wrap on Instagram this week: “Wrap post! It was the best six months of our lives. Stabbingtons Out,” The GWW reported Oct. 28.
Fans on X are saying the whole movie has wrapped. Disney and director Michael Gracey haven’t announced that yet. A regional report from Spain said in August that filming was expected to finish in October.
Either way, you’ve got a while to wait. Disney has set the movie for Friday, March 31, 2028.
When does live-action Tangled come out?
March 31, 2028. Disney announced the date at its Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 in Anaheim on Aug. 14, 2026.
“Best day ever! Disney’s live-action Tangled is coming to theaters March 31, 2028,” Walt Disney Studios posted on X, as quoted by TheWrap.
That’s about 17 months from now, so a teaser could still be a ways off. Disney hasn’t said when it will show the movie to the public.
Who is in the live-action Tangled cast?
Here’s who’s confirmed so far:
Teagan Croft as Rapunzel
Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider
Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel
Diego Luna in a role Disney hasn’t revealed
Hugo and Patrick McPherson as the Stabbington brothers
Disney announced Croft and Manheim on Jan. 7, 2026, the Associated Press reported. Croft starred as Raven in Titans, and Manheim is best known as Zed in Disney Channel’s Zombies movies.
Hahn is having a blast as the villain. “I love playing Mother Gothel. She’s stunning, hilarious, fab, kind, generous to a fault,” she said on the D23 stage, Variety Australia reported.
She was still shooting at the time. “We’re in the middle of it,” Hahn told Good Morning America’s Ginger Zee in August. “It already feels really magical what’s happening up there.”
Behind the camera, Michael Gracey, who directed The Greatest Showman, is directing. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor wrote the script, and Kristin Burr is producing.
Where was live-action Tangled filmed?
Mostly in Spain. Production started June 29, 2026, at the Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante, which has four soundstages and up to 700 crew members working on a given day, Murcia Today reported.
The movie also shot in the Basque Country, in Catalonia, and at a school in Orihuela. The regional government in Valencia put up a 5 million euro grant to help land the movie, and it expects the production to bring in more than 40 million euros by the end of 2026.
The project hasn’t had the smoothest road. It was first reported in December 2024 and put on hold in April 2025 after Disney’s live-action Snow White underperformed, Variety Australia reported.
Things turned around after that. Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch became a billion-dollar hit in the summer of 2025, and Tangled was back on track by the time Croft and Manheim were cast.
Has Disney shown any live-action Tangled footage?
Only to fans in the room. Disney showed first footage at the D23 showcase at the Honda Center in Anaheim in August, and it hasn’t been released online.
TheWrap described it: the camera follows Rapunzel’s long hair, Croft turns around as the title appears, and Hahn’s Gothel creeps around a door. Croft wears a pink dress like her animated counterpart’s.
There’s no official teaser or first-look photo yet.
How did the original Tangled do?
Very well. The animated Tangled hit theaters on Nov. 24, 2010, and made about $592 million worldwide.
Mandy Moore voiced Rapunzel, Zachary Levi voiced Flynn, and Donna Murphy played Mother Gothel. Nathan Greno and Byron Howard directed.
Alan Menken and Glenn Slater’s “I See the Light” was nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song. It later won a Grammy.
If you can’t wait until 2028, Rapunzel and Flynn still meet guests at Disney parks, and Rapunzel’s tower stands in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom, right by the Tangled-themed restrooms.
