Loungefly's new Doctor Doom mini backpack has a real chain and glowing green eyes, and the Cyclops one lights up his visor. Both are $90 web exclusives, out now ahead of Avengers: Doomsday on Dec. 18.
Doctor Doom is coming for your crossbody. Loungefly dropped a small Avengers: Doomsday and X-Men collection on Friday, Nov. 6, led by two light-up mini backpacks at $90 each, ComicBook.com reported in an exclusive first look.
The Doctor Doom backpack is black and green, with an ominous Doom on the front and a real chain on the front zip pocket. "His eyes also light up green!" ComicBook's Colette Bennett wrote.
The Cyclops backpack sticks to his blue and yellow suit. Press the button on the visor, and the visor and his X belt buckle light up.
Both backpacks, plus a Cyclops card holder, are web exclusives on Loungefly.com. Everything in the drop is listed as available now.
For comparison, a plain Loungefly Avengers mini backpack cost $75 at Disney California Adventure's Backlot Premiere Shop in 2021, WDW News Today reported. Glowing eyes cost extra.
How much are the Loungefly Doctor Doom and Cyclops bags?
Here's the whole drop, per ComicBook:
Cyclops light-up cosplay mini backpack: $90, Loungefly.com exclusive
Doctor Doom light-up cosplay mini backpack: $90, Loungefly.com exclusive
Cyclops zip-around card holder: $26, Loungefly.com exclusive
Doctor Doom cosplay card holder: $26
X-Men cosplay mystery mini backpack keychain charm: $20 each, blind box
Both backpacks and both card holders add up to $232, by our math. That's before any charms.
What do the Loungefly Doomsday and X-Men bags look like?
Each backpack has a front zip pocket, a side pocket, a large zip compartment and a carrying handle, ComicBook reported. On Cyclops, the side pockets and appliques work his belt into the design. Doom gets a silver side pocket.
The card holders match their backpacks. The Cyclops version adds a red zipper, and its red crosshair lines glow in the dark. The Doom card holder "looks very similar to the matching backpack," Bennett wrote.
Both card holders have a clear ID holder, a zipper pocket and four card slots on the back. That's room for a driver's license, a credit card and a Disney gift card or two.
What are the X-Men mystery mini backpack charms?
Tiny backpacks you can clip onto a bag, your keys or an outfit, sold blind box style for $20 each. There are six: Wolverine, Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Storm and Professor X. There's no chase charm, so there's no ultra-rare one to hunt.
You still can't pick who you get. If all six are equally likely, it takes about 15 boxes on average to collect the full set, or roughly $294, by our math. A perfect run of six boxes would cost $120.
Trading with friends is cheaper.
Where can you buy the Loungefly Avengers: Doomsday bags?
The two backpacks and the Cyclops card holder are sold only on Loungefly's website. The Doom card holder and the X-Men charms are also headed to "your favorite retailers," ComicBook reported, without naming stores.
ComicBook didn't say whether any of the pieces will turn up at Disney parks or Disney Store. Loungefly's Marvel bags have landed in park shops before, like that 2021 Avengers backpack at Disney California Adventure. We'll keep an eye out.
When does Avengers: Doomsday come out?
Friday, Dec. 18, in theaters. Anthony and Joe Russo direct, and Robert Downey Jr. plays Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man this time. Disney said domestic presales passed $50 million, as we reported Nov. 3.
The X-Men tie-in isn't random. James Marsden returns as Cyclops in Doomsday, alongside Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Variety reported when Marvel revealed the cast. Channing Tatum, who played Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, is in it, too.
That means three of the six mystery charms, Professor X, Beast and Gambit, match characters in the movie's announced cast.
The bags join a long list of Doomsday tie-ins we've covered, from Jack in the Box's Dipping Box to Jeep's Latveria ad.
