The Liberty Square lounge opens Oct. 4 with small plates from $12 to $22 and cocktails up to $19. Reservations for parties of one or two are gone through Nov. 24, but there’s a walk-up list.
Magic Kingdom’s newest lounge hasn’t served a single rib yet, and you already can’t get in.
The Diamond Horseshoe in Liberty Square opens Sunday, Oct. 4, as a limited-time pop-up lounge with small plates, cocktails, wine and beer. Advance reservations opened Tuesday night, Sept. 29, and Disney had to put guests in a virtual queue just to get to the booking page.
Within hours, tables for one or two people were booked through Nov. 24, per Disney Tourist Blog.
What’s on the Diamond Horseshoe menu?
Six small plates, a short cocktail list, and drinks for everybody else.
Small plates run $12 to $22, per Chip and Co’s full price list. The big-ticket item is a $22 charcuterie board with cured beef, candied bacon, smoked pork, green chile cheese, smoked cheddar, and pickles.
The one people will talk about is the $16 Glazed Sticky Ribs, glazed in Barq’s root beer and served with cowboy beans and jalapeno crisps. There’s also a Queso Fundido topped with barbecue burnt ends.
Every small plate has an allergy-friendly version at the same price, per Chip and Co. It covers common allergens like gluten, shellfish, nuts and soy.
How much are the cocktails at the Diamond Horseshoe?
$17 to $19.
The headliner is the $19 Coal’d Fashioned. It’s Buffalo Trace bourbon with Mr. Black cold brew coffee liqueur, cinnamon syrup and orange and Angostura bitters, per MickeyBlog’s menu breakdown.
Wine by the glass runs $14 to $19, and draft beer is $8.50 to $12.50. The non-alcoholic drinks are $6.29 to $6.99.
So a rib plate and a Coal’d Fashioned will run you about $35 before tax and tip. That’s Disney lounge pricing, which is to say it’s not cheap and nobody’s surprised.
Why are Diamond Horseshoe reservations so hard to get?
Mostly because it’s new, and partly because Disney opened booking on a weird schedule.
Reservations went live at 8 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 29, per Disney Tourist Blog. That’s an unusual time for Disney, and Tom Bricker thinks it was chosen to keep the system from crashing.
It didn’t fully work. Guests got a message that “due to high demand,” reservations might be limited or unavailable, and Disney ran a virtual queue to manage traffic, per WDWMagic.
The result: parties of one or two are booked through Nov. 24. Groups of three or four have a bit more luck, but not much.
Can you walk up to the Diamond Horseshoe?
Yes. That’s your best bet.
Disney added a walk-up list for the lounge in the My Disney Experience app, per WDW News Today. If you show up in Liberty Square without a reservation, you can try to get a spot that day.
Bricker expects the walk-up list to get “fairly easy” by early 2027, once the new-restaurant buzz fades. He doesn’t think it’ll turn into the next Beak & Barrel, the Pirates of the Caribbean bar in Adventureland that’s been tough to get into since it opened.
What was the Diamond Horseshoe before?
A lot of things, and not all of them worked.
The building has been part of Liberty Square since Magic Kingdom opened in 1971. It started as a saloon-style stage show and has cycled through dinner shows, buffets, family-style meals and long stretches of being closed.
Most recently it hosted Cool Kids’ Summer, which ended Sept. 8. Disney Tourist Blog described its history in the 2000s as a “revolving door” of attempts to bring the space back to life.
Disney hasn’t said how long the pop-up will run. “Limited-time” usually means months, not years, but Disney has kept plenty of “temporary” things around for a long time.
Should you bother trying to book it?
If you’re going before Thanksgiving and you’re a party of two, the advance reservation route is mostly closed.
Your options are to check the app for cancellations, which pop up more than you’d think, or plan a walk-up. Lounges turn tables faster than full restaurants, so the walk-up list moves.
And if you get in, order the ribs. A root beer glaze in a frontier saloon is about as Liberty Square as food gets.
