The Mandalorian and Grogu have a set meet-and-greet with a real line at Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, after three years of roaming Black Spire Outpost. Chewbacca moved too.
Finding the Mandalorian and Grogu at Disney’s Hollywood Studios just got a lot easier.
The pair now have a set meet-and-greet spot with a dedicated line in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Chip and Company reported on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
They meet under a covered overhang right next to the Millennium Falcon. Guests wait in an organized queue marked off with chain stanchions, instead of chasing Din Djarin around the land.
Chip and Company called it “much easier” to get a photo now.
Here’s what the roaming version looked like when the pair debuted at Hollywood Studios in 2023, from MouseSteps:
How did the Mandalorian meet-and-greet work before?
They roamed. Mando and Grogu showed up in Galaxy’s Edge in March 2023 as walking characters, and they tended to pull big, loose crowds through the Marketplace, Chip and Company noted.
If you wanted a photo, you basically had to be in the right spot at the right time. Now there’s a line, a backdrop and a schedule.
Grogu still rides along in his hover pram, the floating cradle from the show, so the cute factor hasn’t changed.
Din Djarin, the Mandalorian’s name in the series, stays in full armor the whole time. Don’t expect him to take the helmet off for a selfie.
Where did Chewbacca go in Galaxy’s Edge?
To Mando’s old spot. Chewbacca now meets guests at the end of the Marketplace, with a scenic gate set into the rockwork behind him, Chip and Company reported.
Chewie moved to a set location last year, so this is the second shuffle for him in about a year.
A scenic gate makes a pretty good photo backdrop, too. If you want both photos, the two spots are both in the land, so it’s an easy walk from one to the other.
Do any Star Wars characters still roam Galaxy’s Edge?
Yes. Rey and Kylo Ren still roam the land, according to Chip and Company.
Mando still makes the occasional surprise appearance too, including stops at Oga’s Cantina. So you might bump into him even if you skip the line.
How do you find character times at Disney’s Hollywood Studios?
Check the My Disney Experience app. Scheduled character locations are listed there, Chip and Company noted, and that now includes Mando and Grogu’s new spot.
Galaxy’s Edge can get busy, especially around Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. If the photo is a priority, it’s worth checking the app first thing and planning around the meet times.
Why are the Mandalorian and Grogu so popular right now?
The movie helps. The Mandalorian and Grogu hit theaters this year, putting the pair in front of a whole new audience. We covered the debate over how it performed on Oct. 11.
Grogu has been a merchandise favorite since The Mandalorian premiered as one of Disney+’s launch shows in November 2019, when fans started calling him “Baby Yoda.” A meet-and-greet where you can plan your photo is overdue.
What rides are near the new Mandalorian meet spot?
The big one. Galaxy’s Edge has two rides, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and the new meet spot sits right next to the Falcon.
That makes it easy to fit a photo in before or after Smugglers Run. Just keep an eye on the posted meet times, since characters take breaks.
What else is new at Galaxy’s Edge?
Not much else changed with this move, from what Chip and Company described. The bigger shift is just how characters work in the land.
Chip and Company’s report covers Hollywood Studios. It didn’t say anything about Disneyland’s version of Galaxy’s Edge, so don’t assume the same setup in California.
When Galaxy’s Edge opened at Hollywood Studios in 2019, the idea was that characters would roam like locals of Batuu, the planet the land is set on. Set meet-and-greets with lines are more practical, but they’re a little different from that original plan.
For families who just want the picture, though, a line next to the Falcon is a pretty good trade.
