Marvel Television announced Zodiac, a global spy thriller series for Disney+, at New York Comic Con on Oct. 8. Filming starts in London in spring 2027, and the show premieres in 2028.
Marvel Television has a new secret, and it’s literally calling it one.
At its New York Comic Con panel on Thursday, Oct. 8, the studio announced Zodiac, a new series for Disney+. It’s set to premiere in 2028.
“It’s a global spy thriller,” Brad Winderbaum told the crowd. He’s the head of Marvel Television, Animation, Comics and Franchise.
And that’s about all he’d say.
What is Marvel’s Zodiac series about?
Marvel isn’t saying yet. Beyond “global spy thriller,” Winderbaum kept the plot under wraps.
“I can’t tell you anything else about it yet because it’s a secret!“ he said, according to Marvel.com.
Marvel also hasn’t said whether it’s live action or animated. It hasn’t named a showrunner, writers, or directors.
Who is in the cast of Marvel’s Zodiac?
Nobody yet. Winderbaum said casting would begin in “a couple weeks.”
That means the first casting news could come soon, even if the full lineup takes longer.
When does Zodiac come out on Disney+?
In 2028. Filming starts in London in spring 2027, according to Marvel.
That’s a long wait. It also means Zodiac will likely arrive after Avengers: Doomsday, which opens Dec. 18, and its follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars.
Who is Zodiac in Marvel Comics?
It’s a villain team, and a big one. The original Zodiac is a criminal group of 12 members, each named after a sign of the Western zodiac. They first showed up in The Avengers #72, from January 1970, created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Sal Buscema.
Businessman Cornelius van Lunt, who went by Taurus, founded and funded the group. Its members were based in different U.S. cities, and their goal was to take over the world’s economy and politics.
The leadership rotates among the members, like the signs of the zodiac.
Does Zodiac have a Nick Fury connection?
In the comics, yes. The original Scorpio was Jake Fury, the brother of Nick Fury. Nick Fury later posed as Scorpio himself to draw out the other members.
That spy history would fit a “global spy thriller” pretty well. Marvel hasn’t said whether Fury, S.H.I.E.L.D. or any specific Zodiac members are part of the show, though.
Winderbaum did drop one hint. Fans who know the comics might spot “a few clues about where we’re going“ in the show’s title design, he said.
Has Zodiac shown up in Marvel shows before?
In cartoons, yes. Versions of Zodiac have appeared in animated series, including Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel Anime: Iron Man.
The comics have had several versions of the group over the years, too. There’s been an android Zodiac, a team tied to Thanos, and a version in the Dark Reign: Zodiac miniseries.
So Marvel has plenty to choose from.
Who are the 12 members of Zodiac?
There’s one for each sign: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.
Taurus started out as the leader, and Aries and Libra got some of the biggest early storylines. Libra even ended up helping the Avengers later on.
What is Marvel Television?
It’s the name Marvel uses for its live-action and animated TV shows. Marvel brought back the Marvel Television banner in 2024, starting with Echo on Disney+.
Zodiac is one of the newest shows on that slate. Marvel hasn’t released a teaser or trailer yet, so the only thing fans have seen is the logo.
Winderbaum says to look closely.
