McDonald’s Canada’s Monopoly game is giving away a quarter-pound burger made of 10-karat gold, worth about C$20,000. The U.S. version of Monopoly starts Oct. 6, 2026, with different prizes.
McDonald’s is giving away a Quarter Pounder you can’t eat. It’s made of gold.
The prize is part of McDonald’s Monopoly in Canada, per Dexerto and Sporked. It’s a miniature Quarter Pounder made from 10-karat gold, and it weighs exactly a quarter pound. That’s a nice touch.
McDonald’s puts its average retail value at about C$20,000, per Dexerto’s look at the official rules.
Before you start peeling stickers in Ohio, there’s a catch. Only Canadian residents can win it.
How do you win the gold Quarter Pounder?
Through a separate drawing in the McDonald’s app, per Dexerto and Sporked.
In Canada, you enter the 14-digit codes from Monopoly game pieces in the McDonald’s app. If a code doesn’t win a prize in the app’s Bonus Play, you get an entry into the Golden Prize Draw instead.
Winners are picked on Dec. 10, 2026, per Dexerto. You’ll need to be a MyMcDonald’s Rewards member, at least 14 years old, and answer a skill-testing math question to claim it. That last part is standard for Canadian contests.
The gold burger isn’t the only thing being drawn that day. Dexerto counted 11 separate prize draws scheduled for Dec. 10. Your odds depend on how many codes Canadians enter.
When does McDonald’s Monopoly end in Canada?
Game pieces are available through Nov. 2, 2026, or while supplies last, per Dexerto. The Canadian game started Sept. 29.
You have until Nov. 23 to enter codes in the app.
Is the gold burger made of solid gold?
It’s 10-karat gold, which means it’s less than half pure gold mixed with other metals, per Sporked. That’s common for jewelry because it’s tougher than pure gold.
It does weigh a quarter pound, so it lives up to the name. It comes with an appraisal, per Dexerto.
In U.S. dollars, C$20,000 works out to roughly US$14,000 to US$15,000, depending on the exchange rate. The official value is listed in Canadian dollars.
What else can you win in McDonald’s Monopoly Canada?
The gold burger isn’t even the biggest prize, per Sporked:
A 2027 Nissan LEAF Platinum+, worth about C$62,000
C$50,000 in cash
5 million Avion points from Royal Bank of Canada
The gold burger is the only prize that’s actually made of gold, though, and it’s the one getting all the attention.
Can Americans enter the gold burger draw?
No. The Golden Prize Draw is open only to residents of Canada, per Dexerto.
That means picking up a game piece on a trip to Toronto won’t get you in, either. You’d still need to live in Canada to claim the prize. Americans get their own game, with its own prizes, starting Tuesday, Oct. 6.
When does McDonald’s Monopoly start in the U.S.?
Oct. 6, 2026, per Sporked.
The American game has its own prize list, and it doesn’t include the gold burger. Top U.S. prizes include $1 million in cash, a Jeep Cherokee and free McDonald’s for a year, per Sporked.
So U.S. players can still win big. They just can’t win something to put on the mantel next to the bowling trophies.
Why does McDonald’s Monopoly keep coming back?
Because it works for McDonald’s, year after year.
The promotion has run on and off since 1987, and it’s one of McDonald’s best-known marketing games. The peel-off stickers on fries and drinks became a fall tradition for a lot of customers. These days the app does most of the work, so you don’t have to save a pile of paper pieces on the fridge to chase Boardwalk.
A quarter pound of gold shaped like a Quarter Pounder is about as on-brand as a prize gets.
