Mckenna Grace says her two Cosmopolitan answers, one about turning down nude scenes and one about wanting to be a Disney princess, got stitched together in headlines. She still hasn't said which princess she'd play.
Mckenna Grace wants to separate two things she said in the same interview.
The 20-year-old actor posted an Instagram story Tuesday, Nov. 3, saying her choice to skip nude scenes and "hypersexual" roles has nothing to do with her dream of playing a Disney princess. "The two quotes being used right now in these titles are unrelated," she wrote, TheWrap reported.
She shared a screenshot of Variety's story about her comments with the post. The no-nudity choice is "just because of my own personal boundaries," she wrote, ComingSoon reported.
She also called all the online chatter "silly," and said there are more important things to talk about.
Here's Grace talking about her Disney princess dream:
What did Mckenna Grace say about being a Disney princess?
The comments came from a Cosmopolitan interview tied to her press tour for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Variety picked them up Monday, Nov. 2.
Asked whether there are roles she'd turn down, Grace said, "At this point, I definitely don't do nudity or very hypersexual things."
"I respect anybody who can, but it's terrifying to me," she added. She also said she doesn't know if that will ever change.
In a separate line, she said, "My dream is to try and be a Disney princess someday."
Variety's headline put the two quotes side by side, and other outlets followed. That framing made it sound like one answer explained the other. That's the part she pushed back on.
Which Disney princess does Mckenna Grace want to play?
She didn't say. Neither the interview quotes nor her Instagram story named a princess, a remake or a specific Disney project.
There's no casting news, either. Disney hasn't announced any princess role for Grace. For now, it's a dream she's said out loud, which is how a lot of these things start.
She was a popular fan cast for the role of Rapunzel, but that ultimately went to Teagan Croft.
Has Mckenna Grace been in Disney projects?
Yes, more than most people realize. Counting Disney-owned studios and networks, her credits include:
Crash & Bernstein (Disney XD, 2012 to 2014), as Jasmine Bernstein
Designated Survivor (ABC), as Penny Kirkman
Captain Marvel (2019), as young Carol Danvers
Just Beyond (Disney+, 2021), as Veronica Vanderhall
The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu, 2021 to 2022), as Esther Keyes
When does The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping come out?
Nov. 20, from Lionsgate. Grace plays Maysilee Donner, a District 12 tribute, and her twin sister, Merrilee, TheWrap reported.
She's had a busy run. Grace appeared in Scream 7 earlier this year. In the Cosmopolitan interview, she pointed out that her character "literally gets gutted by Ghostface," so she's no stranger to dark roles.
She's also set to play Daphne in Netflix's live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins. And she starred in and executive produced 2025's Regretting You.
Have other actors talked about turning down roles?
Plenty. Variety pointed to a couple of examples, including one with a Disney connection:
Amy Adams, who played Giselle in Disney's Enchanted, reportedly passed on a raunchy Saturday Night Live sketch. Andy Samberg recalled her saying, "Little girls are so obsessed with 'Enchanted' right now."
Amanda Seyfried said in September she no longer wants to do sex scenes. "I'm uncomfortable with it," she said.
Grace's point is simpler than the headlines made it. Her boundaries are her own, and the princess dream is a separate thing. Both can be true at the same time.
