The LEGO Store, Sephora, Zara and Vera Bradley at Disney Springs no longer take Disney gift cards, and some dropped room charge too. Disney-run shops still take them.
That Disney gift card in your wallet just got a little less useful at Disney Springs.
More third-party stores at Disney Springs have stopped accepting Disney Gift Cards, Disney Rewards Redemption Cards and resort room charge, WDW News Today reported on Friday, Oct. 16.
The LEGO Store is the latest. It has signs posted near checkout to tell shoppers about the change, WDWNT said.
The switch started with a few stores in August. Zara and Vera Bradley went first, and Sephora followed, according to WDWNT.
Here’s a recent walking tour of Disney Springs from Wonder Walks, if you want to scope out the shops before you go:
Which Disney Springs stores don’t take Disney gift cards?
So far, WDW News Today has named five:
The LEGO Store
Sephora
Zara
Vera Bradley
Vuori, which opened Oct. 16
All five have dropped Disney Gift Cards. The LEGO Store, Sephora and Vuori also won’t take Disney Rewards Redemption Cards or room charge, WDWNT reported.
Why are Disney Springs stores dropping Disney gift cards?
Contracts. Disney Guest Relations told WDWNT the change comes down to third-party contracts changing.
That’s a hint about what’s ahead. Most stores that open at Disney Springs from now on probably won’t take the Disney payment options either, WDWNT said.
Disney Springs mixes shops Disney runs itself with outside brands that rent space. The outside brands are the ones making the switch.
Where can you still use a Disney gift card at Disney Springs?
Plenty of places. Disney Gift Cards still work at every Disney-owned and Disney-operated location, including Disney Stores and World of Disney, according to WDWNT.
The change hasn’t reached Disney Springs restaurants so far. Third-party shops inside the theme parks still take them, too.
So your gift card still covers a Dole Whip, a new pair of ears or a whole lot of pins. It just won’t buy a LEGO Millennium Falcon anymore.
What is a Disney Rewards Redemption Card?
It’s how Disney Visa cardholders spend the Disney Rewards Dollars they earn on the card. A lot of fans use them on property the same way they use gift cards.
Room charge lets hotel guests put purchases on their resort bill, usually with a tap of a MagicBand or phone. When a store drops it, you’ll need to pull out a card instead.
What should you do if a Disney Springs store won’t take your gift card?
Have a backup ready. A regular credit or debit card works, and so does your phone’s tap-to-pay at most registers.
If you carry a Disney Visa, the card itself still works like any other credit card at these stores. It’s the rewards redemption card that’s getting turned away.
And if you were counting on room charge, keep your wallet in the bag on shopping days.
Where is the LEGO Store at Disney Springs?
It’s in the Marketplace area, near the water. It’s the one with the giant LEGO sea serpent out front, so it’s hard to miss.
Should you still buy discounted Disney gift cards?
For most Disney trips, sure. We covered a 10% off Disney gift card deal on Google Play this week, and deals like that still save real money.
Just plan to spend the cards at Disney restaurants, Disney-run shops and resorts, or on park tickets. The outside brands at Disney Springs are where they’re starting to fail.
If you’re saving up a stack of gift cards for a shopping day, check the sign at the register first. It beats finding out at the front of the line.
What else is new at Disney Springs?
Vuori, an athletic clothing brand, opened its new store in the Town Center area on Oct. 16, LaughingPlace reported.
Over at Ghirardelli, the shop’s stained glass came down during a refurbishment, WDW News Today reported.
Will more Disney Springs stores stop taking Disney gift cards?
Probably. Disney hasn’t announced a full list, and WDWNT expects new stores to skip the Disney payment options.
Until then, the rule of thumb is simple. Disney-run shop, gift card works. Outside brand, bring a backup.
