National Sandwich Day lands on Tuesday, Nov. 3, which is also Election Day, and the deals are already rolling. Subway even moved its party up a week. Here’s what’s on the table.
National Sandwich Day 2026 is Tuesday, Nov. 3. That’s also Election Day, which is why at least one big chain decided to throw its sandwich party early.
Most of the deals below need a rewards account or the chain’s app. Signing up is free, but do it before you’re standing at the counter with a hungry kid and 4% battery.
Why is National Sandwich Day on Nov. 3?
The date is traditionally cited as the birthday of John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, born in 1718. The food carries his name.
The famous story says he asked for meat between bread so he could keep playing cards without stopping. Britannica calls that tale widely thought to be made up. Either way, the name stuck, and now we get free subs out of it.
What is Subway doing for National Sandwich Day 2026?
Subway moved its celebration to Tuesday, Oct. 27, and its deal runs through Sunday, Nov. 8. In its Oct. 21 release, Subway said “Tuesday, Nov. 3 is a big day in America,” pointing to the midterm election.
The deal is buy one footlong, get a free footlong of equal or lesser price. The fine print matters here:
It’s for Subway’s Sub Club members, new or current
It only works in the Subway app or online, not at the register
The offer drops into the member’s app wallet automatically
It excludes the Fresh Fit subs, the 5 Meat Italian and the Big Hot Pastrami
It doesn’t apply to delivery apps, catering or gift cards
Subway also brought back the Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub, last sold in 2014, and the Caramel Apple Cookie, last seen in 2021. Both hit menus Oct. 27 for a limited time. “Consider this permission to listen to your SUBconscious,” chief marketing officer Jeff Klein said in the release. We’ll let that pun slide because of the free footlong.
What is the Firehouse Subs National Sandwich Day deal?
Firehouse Subs is giving a free medium sub with any purchase of $15 or more on Nov. 3, according to Sporked and The Krazy Coupon Lady. Sporked says every sub counts, including the seasonal Thanksgiving Turkey Sub.
The two outlets differ on how to order. Sporked says in-store or the app, while The Krazy Coupon Lady says online or the app. The app shows up in both, so that’s the safe bet. We didn’t find a Firehouse announcement of its own.
Which other chains have Sandwich Day deals?
A few rewards deals start before Nov. 3, so you can double dip:
McAlister’s Deli: rewards members get a regular sandwich for $5 from Oct. 30 through Nov. 3, per Sporked and The Krazy Coupon Lady
Schlotzsky’s: rewards members get a medium sandwich for $5 from Oct. 31 through Nov. 3, up to 10 per order, per the same two outlets
Capriotti’s: rewards members get a second sub half off on Nov. 3, per Burger Beast
Farmer Boys: VIF members get a Bacon Turkey Melt for $5.99, one per member, per the chain’s VIF page and Sporked
Farmer Boys is mostly a West Coast chain, so East Coast readers may be out of luck there. Its VIF page lists the deal for Nov. 3 and 4. Sporked lists only Nov. 3.
Potbelly fans should watch the app. A Denver deals site reported a buy one, get one deal with code BOGO for Colorado locations on Nov. 3, online and in the app only. We couldn’t find a Potbelly announcement saying it runs nationwide.
Is there a Jersey Mike’s or Jimmy John’s Sandwich Day deal?
Not that anyone has confirmed as of Thursday afternoon. Some deal sites are predicting a repeat of last year’s offers from Jersey Mike’s, Jimmy John’s and Popeyes, but those are guesses based on 2025, not 2026 announcements.
Burger Beast said as of Oct. 27 that Jersey Mike’s, Jimmy John’s and Firehouse hadn’t confirmed their 2026 plans. Chains often post these the week of, so check apps Monday night.
One last tip. Deals at franchise chains usually say participating locations, so call ahead or check your store in the app before you build lunch plans around it. A free sub tastes a lot worse when the cashier tells you your store isn’t in on it.
