The 12 Days of Nestle Toll House Advent Calendar is shaped like the original Toll House Inn, holds 12 cookie doughs and morsels, and sells online only, at 2 p.m. ET on Oct. 9, Nov. 6 and Dec. 4.
Nestle Toll House is getting into the advent calendar business, and it’s starting in October.
The brand’s first-ever advent calendar, the 12 Days of Nestle Toll House Advent Calendar, costs $29.99. It goes on sale Friday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. ET, only at tollhouse.com/adventcalendar.
If you miss that one, there are two more drops: Friday, Nov. 6, and Friday, Dec. 4, which is National Cookie Day. Quantities are limited every time.
What’s inside the Toll House advent calendar?
Twelve numbered doors, with a Toll House product behind each one.
Two of them are new this year: Snowflake Cookie Dough and Snowflake Morsels. The other 10 are Toll House regulars:
Santa’s Cookie Dough
Peppermint Cocoa Cookie Dough
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Holiday Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Football Morsels
Butterscotch Morsels
Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
Milk Chocolate Mini Morsels
Dark Chocolate Morsels
It’s an even split: six cookie doughs and six bags of morsels. The doughs explain the cold shipping box.
Football Morsels in a Christmas calendar is a choice. Then again, the Super Bowl isn’t far behind.
That works out to about $2.50 a door.
“Our first-ever advent calendar brings that spirit to life with a mix of new holiday innovations like Snowflake Cookie Dough and Morsels, alongside beloved favorites,” said Melanie Knoke, senior marketing manager for Nestle Toll House.
Why is the Toll House advent calendar shaped like a house?
Because there was a real Toll House.
The calendar is designed to look like the original Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. That’s where Ruth Wakefield came up with the chocolate chip cookie in the 1930s.
Wakefield’s original name for it was the Toll House Chocolate Crunch Cookie. Nestle eventually put the Toll House name on its chocolate chips, and the recipe has been on the bag ever since. The inn itself burned down in 1984, so the calendar is the closest most of us will get.
How do you buy the Toll House advent calendar?
Online only, at 2 p.m. ET on each drop date. There’s no in-store version.
Deal site Hip2Save reported a few more details:
Limit of one per household
Overnight shipping is included, and it ships in a refrigerated box
It doesn’t ship to Alaska or Hawaii
The fridge box makes sense. That’s a lot of cookie dough to leave on a porch.
What is National Cookie Day?
It’s an unofficial food holiday on Dec. 4 every year, and bakeries and brands love it.
Toll House putting its last calendar drop on National Cookie Day is about as on-the-nose as a cookie company can get. We respect it.
When should you buy the Toll House advent calendar?
It’s a 12-day calendar, so there’s no need to start on Dec. 1.
If you want the countdown to end on Christmas Day, start opening doors on Dec. 14. If you’re a Christmas Eve family, start on Dec. 13.
The October drop just means you’ll have it in the fridge early. The Dec. 4 drop is the one to watch if you’d rather it arrive fresh.
Either way, set an alarm for 2 p.m. Eastern. A first-ever advent calendar with three limited drops feels like the kind of thing that sells out fast.
