The FDA says the toddler bars can form a dry, sticky mass that back blows and the Heimlich maneuver may not clear. The recall covers every lot, including expired boxes still in pantries.
Once Upon a Farm has recalled all lots and varieties of its Tractor Wheels Organic Toddler Soft-Baked Bars because of a possible choking hazard for toddlers ages 1.5 to 2.5. The recall reaches back to expired boxes, and unexpired packages carry Best If Used By dates from Oct. 30, 2026, to Aug. 26, 2027.
The Berkeley, Calif., company announced the recall Oct. 30, and the FDA posted the notice on Nov. 2. In its notice, the company said the bars can "rapidly hydrate into a dense, dry, and sticky mass" when they mix with saliva during chewing.
The FDA went further in a consumer advisory, last updated Nov. 3. It called the hazard "potentially fatal" and said it has received several reports of toddlers suffering complete airway obstruction after eating the bars.
The FDA said standard choking first aid, including back blows and the Heimlich maneuver, may fail to dislodge the mass. Some reported incidents required emergency response and hospital observation.
The company's notice says the recall was based on three choking complaints reported to the FDA, and that "no injuries have been reported to date."

The company says no other Once Upon a Farm products are part of the recall. That includes its Power Wheels soft-baked bars, which are labeled for ages 4 and up, FoodNavigator reported.
Where were Tractor Wheels sold?
Nationwide, including Puerto Rico, both online and in stores. The FDA advisory names Costco, Target and Walmart, and says the bars may also have been sold on Amazon and by other third-party sellers.
The FDA told retailers not to sell the product.
What should parents do with recalled Tractor Wheels?
Stop serving them. The company says not to open the package or eat the bars. The FDA says to return them to the store for a refund or throw them away right away.
Refund: Return the bars to where you bought them for a full refund. Consumer Reports said opened packages count, too.

If a child is choking and first aid isn't working, the FDA says to call 911. Parents can report a problem with the product through the FDA's Human Foods Safety Reporting Portal.
What foods are choking hazards for toddlers?
Consumer Reports used the recall to remind parents about foods that are riskier for young kids:
Hot dogs cut into coins
Popcorn and chips
Hard or sticky candy
Whole grapes
Raw carrot rounds
Spoonfuls of peanut butter
Foods that clump, or that are dry and hard
Will Tractor Wheels come back?
The company says it is reformulating the bars, but it hasn't given a return date.
As of Nov. 2, the company hadn't found a root cause, FoodNavigator reported. It is reviewing ingredients, manufacturing and quality specifications. CEO John Foraker said the company is "looking to understand how the product could manifest as a choking hazard."
Tractor Wheels made up about 18% of the company's net sales this year, FoodNavigator reported. The publicly traded company plans to discuss the recall when it reports third-quarter results on Nov. 12.
"We are sorry for the worry and disruption this has caused," the company said in its notice.
