Oreo fans picked Banana Pudding over Deep Fried and Chicken and Waffles, so it’s coming back in 2027. And a new Gingerbread Cakesters is already turning up in stores.
The votes are in, and Oreo fans went with dessert over dinner.
Oreo Banana Pudding won the brand’s “Twist, Lick, Vote” campaign and will return to stores in 2027. Oreo’s vote page now reads “America has spoken,” with the winner front and center.
It beat out the other two flavors from the summer test, Oreo Deep Fried and Oreo Chicken & Waffles. Sporked reported the result on Tuesday, Oct. 13, the day Oreo had promised to name a winner.
We covered the vote when it kicked off in August. So yes, this is the follow-up you’ve been waiting for, if you’ve been waiting.
When does Oreo Banana Pudding come back?
Sometime in 2027. Oreo’s page only gives the year, and the August announcement said the winner would join the 2027 lineup “for a limited time.” Sporked said to look for it in spring 2027, though Oreo hasn’t posted a date.
The cookie itself is two layers of creme, one vanilla and one banana custard flavor, between two Nilla Wafers-flavored Oreo cookies, Sporked reported.
That wafer pick keeps it in the family. Nilla is another Nabisco brand under Mondelez, the same company that makes Oreo.
How did the Oreo flavor vote work?
Oreo put all three flavors on shelves and let fans decide. Here’s how it went, according to Mondelez International, Oreo’s parent company:
Aug. 17: presale started on Oreo’s website and its TikTok Shop storefront
Aug. 24: all three flavors hit stores nationwide
Aug. 17 to Oct. 12: fans voted online or by scanning a QR code on the packs
Oct. 13: the winner was announced
Every vote also entered people in a sweepstakes for a year’s supply of original Oreos. That prize was 10 packs of 13.29 ounces, shipped every three months for a year.
“We know our fans are incredibly passionate about their favorite flavors,” Matt Foley, vice president of Oreo, said in August.
Rohit Sakhamuri, a senior brand manager for Oreo innovation, said the three flavors took “over a year of meticulous research” to get right.
Mondelez didn’t share vote totals. We checked, and none of the coverage so far includes them.
What were the other Oreo vote flavors?
Two pretty wild ones. Oreo Deep Fried tried to taste like fried dough wrapped around dark chocolate. Oreo Chicken & Waffles used a waffle-pattern cookie with sweet and savory notes meant to call up fried chicken and maple syrup, Mondelez said.
Both are done after their summer run. If you still have a pack in the pantry, it might be time to finish it.
What are Oreo Gingerbread Cakesters?
A new holiday spin on Oreo’s soft snack cakes. Food blogger markie_devo posted on Instagram that Oreo Cakesters Gingerbread had turned up at CVS stores across the country, The Takeout reported on Oct. 12.
The box has 10 Cakesters. Each one is two gingerbread-flavored cakes with a vanilla creme in the middle.
There’s no official announcement from Oreo yet. Here’s what’s been reported so far, all from markie_devo’s post as The Takeout described it:
Price: an early estimate of $4.99, likely to vary by store
Wider release: Oct. 19 at select stores, including Albertsons, Kroger, Publix and Meijer
Where now: CVS
“Omg I need these immediately,” one commenter wrote.
What other Oreo treats are out for the holidays?
A few. Oreo’s own online shop is selling Orange Creme Halloween cookies and an Oreo Campfire S’more pack right now.
And Candy Cane Oreo Puffs cereal hits stores in November for $4.99, as we reported Oct. 14. Between that and the Cakesters, Oreo’s holiday aisle is filling up fast.
Are Oreo Cakesters still around?
They are, after a long break. Cakesters first came out in 2007, were discontinued in 2012 and came back in 2022 after fans kept asking, The Takeout noted.
Some fans clearly didn’t see a seasonal version coming. “Honestly I never thought we were going to [get] a limited edition Oreo Cakesters flavor,” another commenter wrote.
Banana Pudding fans have a longer wait. Gingerbread fans, on the other hand, might only need to wait until next Monday.
