Both shows ran for the last time Thursday, August 20, as the 70th anniversary celebration wound down. With two replacements announced for 2027, it may be a long wait for either to return.
Two of Disneyland’s signature nighttime shows ran for the last time on Thursday.
The Paint the Night parade and the Wondrous Journeys projection show and fireworks both gave their final performances on August 20, 2026.
Neither has a return date.
Why Paint the Night and Wondrous Journeys ended now
Disneyland’s 70th anniversary wrapped on August 9. The resort has been removing the celebration’s remaining elements since, and the nighttime entertainment lineup was part of that.
Last weekend at D23, Disney announced that the Magic Happens parade returns by summer 2027 and that a refreshed Remember... Dreams Come True fireworks show arrives in February 2027.
MousePlanet’s read is that with both replacements now announced, this is likely the last Disneyland performance of either show for the foreseeable future.
What Paint the Night was
The parade has one of the more complicated histories in Disneyland entertainment.
It debuted for the resort’s 60th anniversary in 2015, built around more than a million individually programmable LED lights, and became one of the most requested returns whenever it went away.
It has come back several times since, each run tied to a celebration rather than to the regular calendar. Disney has not said what happens to it next.
What Wondrous Journeys was
Wondrous Journeys debuted for the Disney100 celebration, using projections across Main Street, U.S.A., the castle, and the “it’s a small world” facade to move through Walt Disney Animation Studios films.
The projection surfaces it used are the same ones Disney has now said the refreshed Remember... Dreams Come True will use starting in February.
What replaces them at Disneyland?
Remember... Dreams Come True returns to Disneyland park in February 2027 with new projections on the Rivers of America, the “it’s a small world” facade, and down Main Street.
An updated version of the original World of Color debuts at Disney California Adventure the same month.
Magic Happens returns to Disneyland by summer 2027.
In the meantime, Halloween Screams fireworks start tonight and run through Halloween, and World of Color – ONE has been running at California Adventure since August 10.
Anyone who saw Thursday’s last run of either show caught something that may not come back. Disneyland retires and revives its nighttime entertainment on a cycle nobody outside the company can predict, and Paint the Night has come back from further away than this before.
