Disney signed a deal to put some of its shows and movies on Netflix, starting with Percy Jackson and the Olympians and all five Ice Age films on Sunday, Oct. 4. Pixar’s Soul and Elio follow in early 2027.
Disney shows on Netflix. A few years ago, that would have sounded backward.
Disney has signed a licensing deal with Netflix that will put some of its TV shows and movies on Netflix, per Variety, which first reported the deal on Friday, Oct. 2. The first titles arrive Sunday, Oct. 4:
Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Seasons 1 and 2
All five Ice Age movies
More Disney shows follow this fall. Animated films including Pixar’s Soul and Elio are set for early 2027.
Are Disney movies leaving Disney+ for Netflix?
No. The deal is nonexclusive, per Variety via Laughing Place. That means these titles stay on Disney+ and Hulu while they’re also streaming on Netflix.
So if you already have Disney+, you don’t lose anything. If you only have Netflix, you’re about to get a taste of what Disney has.
When are Percy Jackson and Ice Age coming to Netflix?
Sunday, Oct. 4. Both are available worldwide, but only for about three months, per What’s on Netflix.
The timing isn’t random. Each one lines up with something new Disney wants you to watch:
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3, based on The Titan’s Curse, premieres on Disney+ on Nov. 20, per Laughing Place.
Ice Age: Boiling Point, the sixth Ice Age movie, hits theaters Feb. 5, 2027.
In other words, Netflix is the trailer. Disney is betting that people who binge Percy on Netflix will follow him to Disney+ for Season 3.
What other Disney shows are coming to Netflix?
The schedule so far, per What’s on Netflix and Netflix Life:
Felicity, Seasons 1-4: Oct. 7 (U.S.)
Will Trent, Seasons 1-4: Nov. 3
Shifting Gears, Seasons 1-2: Dec. 1 in the U.S., and Jan. 7, 2027, internationally
Tracker, Seasons 1-3: Feb. 26, 2027, outside the U.S. only
Revenge, Army Wives, Fresh Off the Boat and This Is Us are also part of the deal, but dates haven’t been announced. Some will only be available in certain countries.
Laughing Place also listed Grey’s Anatomy and Arrested Development, though other reports didn’t include them.
Which Pixar and Disney Animation movies are coming to Netflix?
Pixar’s Soul and Elio and Disney Animation’s Raya and the Last Dragon are set for early 2027, per Variety via What’s on Netflix.
More Pixar and Disney Animation titles are expected, per Men’s Journal, but Disney hasn’t named them yet.
Elio is the newest of the group. It opened in theaters in June 2025.
Why is Disney putting its shows on Netflix?
Two big reasons: money and marketing.
Licensing older shows and movies brings in cash. And Netflix has a huge global subscriber base, per What’s on Netflix, so putting a show there can introduce it to millions of new viewers. People in the industry call it the “Netflix effect,” per Men’s Journal.
It’s also a big change for Disney.
Back in 2017, Disney announced it would stop putting its new movies on Netflix so it could launch its own streaming service, per Forbes. Disney+ launched in November 2019, and Disney spent years keeping its biggest titles at home.
What does this mean for Disney+ subscribers?
Not much changes for now. Disney+ keeps everything in the deal.
The deal comes during a busy week for Disney. On Thursday, Disney’s Dana Walden said at Bloomberg’s Screentime conference that tech companies have “set their sights on our business.” A day later, news broke that Disney is licensing some of its shows to Netflix.
If you have Netflix, Percy, Annabeth, Grover and a whole lot of prehistoric animals show up Sunday. Just don’t wait too long. In about three months, they’re heading back to Disney+ only.
