PETA Uses Goofy and Max for a Weird Father's Day Ad?
PETA, or the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has become a bit of a joke on social media. They try to latch on to anything for attention including Punxsutawney Phil (who lives like a king by the way) to almost naked women, a Nazi concentration camp, to saying Autism might be caused by milk.
They have also come under fire for reports of euthanizing animals instead of trying to adopt them out, including taking a child’s dog and putting it down.
To say they don’t have a great reputation among those online is an understatement. As an animal lover, I had trouble even looking at the links for this article.
Now, they are using Disney father and son characters Goofy and Max to promote their infamous organization.
For Father’s Day, they put out this cringy post.
It’s unclear if they had Disney’s permission to use the characters.
This led to a lot of comments that PETA must have not liked because they limited who could comment.
Here are some of the ones that got through,
“I went trash fishing this morning and dang if I didn’t catch a big one when I open Facebook and seen this garbage”- Jessy B.
“The first bit of trash that needs clearing is peta” - Dan W.
“State and Federal wildlife commissions do more for conservation than PETA could ever dream of. If it's a contest on who can fill a dumpster with dogs first my money would be on PETA.” - Chaz H.
“Or, hear me out, teach your kids “pack in, pack out”, to leave our parks and waterways better than we found them, and be good stewards of nature so our future generations can enjoy fishing too?” - Brazen R.
“I’ve never been a fan of fishing. But now I have a hankering to go” - Nick R.
“I hope Disney can sue for this lol” - Nick M.
“Lucky for me I never let my dog go out to fish.” - Deago L.
“Said no kid ever , never heard any adult ever talk about their fishing trips with their mum and dad in a negative way, get off social media and go touch grass peta” - Travis T.
Many commenters mentioned Disney and wondered if they were aware of PETA using their characters.
While I do agree that we should all pick up our trash and even clean up the land we didn’t trash. It’s also important to teach kids to keep it clean and not litter, but this isn’t necessarily the best way to do it.
