Petco Love’s new Plush Mystery Charm Adoptable Pet blind boxes hit Petco stores and Petco.com on Oct. 26 for $15.99 each, with six plush pets-two are rare ones. Proceeds benefit shelter pets.
The blind box craze is going to the cats and dogs.
Petco Love, the national nonprofit tied to the pet retailer Petco, is launching a new collectible series called the Plush Mystery Charm Adoptable Pet collection, the group announced Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Each tiny plush is inspired by a real adoptable shelter pet. And every purchase helps pets find homes.
We are big on helping animal shelters here at PNP. All of our pets have come from animal shelters.
When do the Petco Love mystery charms come out?
Monday, Oct. 26. The charms will be sold only at Petco stores nationwide and on Petco.com, while supplies last, according to Petco Love.
How much are the Petco Love plush charms?
Each blind box costs $15.99, according to the Petco Love announcement.
Petco Love says all proceeds go to its lifesaving work, including helping shelter pets find loving families.
What’s inside a Petco Love mystery charm box?
One plush pet charm and an adoption certificate. The collection has six standard plush pets and two rare mystery pets.
Each box includes a “Gotcha Day!” adoption certificate that introduces your new pet. Scan the QR code on the certificate to finish the “adoption” and unlock that pet’s story and exclusive content.
The designs are based on the personalities of real shelter pets, from goofy to quirky to cuddly, according to Pet Age.
What are the odds of getting a rare Petco Love charm?
About 1 in 36. That’s the chance of finding one of the two rare charms in a box, according to Petco Love’s website.
Like other blind boxes, you won’t know which pet you have until you open it. Petco Love hasn’t shared the names or pictures of the rare pets yet.
What did Petco Love say about the collection?
Dana Puglisi, chief marketing officer at Petco Love, said “You don’t know which pet you’ll discover when you open the box.”
Puglisi said every collectible pet that gets “adopted” helps Petco Love make more life-changing matches for real pets, too.
Why are blind box toys so popular?
The surprise is part of the fun. Blind box toys, where you don’t know what’s inside until you open the package, have become a huge trend with collectors over the last few years.
Many fans buy several boxes trying to complete a set or chase a rare figure. Collectors often trade duplicates with friends or online. Bag charms, small toys that clip onto backpacks and purses, have been especially popular.
Is there a Disney tie-in at Petco this holiday season?
Yes. Petco’s holiday lineup includes a Disney Mickey Mouse and Minnie Grooming Package, coming to Petco grooming salons in November, according to Petco.
The package comes with seasonal spritzes, a holiday bandana and a holiday cookie treat. Petco hasn’t shared a price.
Petco also suggested the Petco Love mystery charms as stocking stuffers as part of its “Never Naughty, Always Nice” holiday campaign, which includes free Santa photos at select stores on Saturday, Dec. 12.
What is Petco Love?
A national nonprofit founded in 1999. Petco Love has worked with more than 4,000 animal welfare groups and invested more than $442 million in adoption and lifesaving efforts, according to the organization.
It has helped find homes for more than 7.2 million pets. Petco Love also runs Petco Love Lost, a free tool that helps reunite lost pets with their families.
How can you adopt a real shelter pet?
Start with your local shelter. Many Petco stores host adoption events with local animal welfare groups, and you can search for adoptable pets near you on the Petco Love website.
If you’re not ready to adopt, fostering or volunteering at a shelter are other ways to help. And a $15.99 plush charm is a small way to pitch in, too.
