Pirates of the Carribean Tavern To Be Called The Beak and Barrel
Disney has announced the name of the new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern opening in the Magic Kingdom later this year. The new location will be called The Beak and Barrel.
This new dining location will be located where the Pirate League used to be, next to the gift shop.
Backstory
My money is that this new tavern will tie into Disney’s next “Pirates of the Caribbean” film because we have a female pirate once again. This time, the pirate is Captain Meridain “Merry” Goldwyn. She established the tavern with her “first mate,” Rummy the Parrot.
I don’t know that this will tie into the all-female “Pirates of the Caribbean” film, but Disney tends to do anything that ties into their current IP, so I think there is a better than average chance.
Rummy
Merry’s companion Rummy is the quartermaster for the tavern. He is roosting above the bar where he will apparently interact with guests.
He is meant to resemble the old Barker Bird that used to be outside the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.
The Beak and Barrel Tavern will have different rooms
The Mess
The Mess will be the largest area at the tavern.
“…once the mess hall for Spanish soldiers and is now known appropriately as “The Mess.” Long tables span the room, allowing for pirates to gather ‘round and tell their own tales, while an imposing anchor covered in candles and dripping wax hangs high above. “
If you don’t like sitting with strangers you may not want to be seated in this area. It kind of reminds me of the Biergarten in EPCOT.
This area also features a large bar made from “shipwreck” pieces. It is described by Disney like this,
“At its center, the skull-shaped stern holds an impressive collection of grogs and brew. Guests may also spot the Enchanted Rum Bottle, which was gifted to Merry by the enchantress Tia Dalma and seemingly serves as the source of the tavern’s specialty brews, or Rummy hobbling along the bar’s ledge, greeting the patrons and keeping a close eye on the crew while Merry is away. “
Captains’ Quarters section
This area is more private and exclusive. This was the living quarters of the Spanish Comandante, but the artwork and curtains show burn marks and slashes. Sections of the wall will be brighter colored to make it look like art has been stolen and removed.
“Inside the Captains’ Quarters, visiting pirates can enjoy a taste of the finer life, which was once the living quarters of the Spanish Comandante. However, the fine artwork and drapery hasn’t escaped slashing blades or burn marks over the years by rambunctious pirates, and in some places, faded spots on the wall are all that remains of now plundered portraits. “
The fireplace will feature five glass bottles with miniature ships inside that will battle each other from time to time.
“Above the fireplace are mounted five miniature ships in glass bottles, rumored to represent pirates from every corner of the world banding together to defeat tyranny. Keep a weathered eye out, as these mysterious bottles have been known to come alive and engage in a fearsome battle.”
I do think this sounds like a fun place to visit. I really would like to see the miniature ships battle each other.
The Beak and Barrel is expected to open in Adventureland later this year!
