Rupert Grint is putting the Weasley hair back on.
The actor will play an adult Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway, beginning Tuesday, February 2, 2027 at the Lyric Theatre and running through Sunday, May 30.
It is his first time playing the character since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in 2011.

Tickets for Grint’s performances go on presale September 1, opening to the general public on September 2.
The run is 17 weeks, and the production is calling it strictly limited. Given what happened with the previous casting announcement, waiting is a gamble.
Will Rupert Grint and Tom Felton be on stage together
No, and the timing is close enough to be frustrating.
Tom Felton joined the Broadway production as Draco Malfoy in November 2025, becoming the first film actor to reprise a role on stage. His run was extended and now concludes Sunday, January 3, 2027.
Grint begins February 2. That leaves a full month between them, and as of now they are not scheduled to appear together.
Felton’s casting had an immediate effect, sending ticket sales and attendance soaring and giving the production what it has called a record-breaking year.

“Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again in this stage of life,” Grint said.
He described stepping back into the role now that both he and Ron are fathers as “somehow both very familiar and completely new.”
Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender said Grint’s film performance “defined for generations what it meant to be a loyal and brave friend,” and framed his return as continuing a journey rather than revisiting one.
What Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is about
Cursed Child is set 19 years after The Deathly Hallows. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco team up to save the Wizarding World after their sons change history during a time-travelling adventure, bringing Lord Voldemort back.
The play originally ran as two full-length shows. It has since been condensed into a single production, which the show describes as a race through time with spectacular spells and an epic battle.
The current Broadway cast includes John Skelley as Harry, Emmet Smith as Albus Potter, Aidan Close as Scorpius Malfoy, Rachel Christopher as Hermione, Trish Lindstrom as Ginny, and Daniel Fredrick, currently playing Ron.
What else Rupert Grint has been doing
Grint starred in M. Night Shyamalan‘s Servant on Apple TV. He most recently appeared in Hanna Bergholm‘s Nightborn, which premiered at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival.
He also stars in Paramount Pictures’ Ebenezer, opening this fall.
This is not his Broadway debut either. He appeared in It’s Only a Play in 2014.
Why 2026 is such a big Harry Potter year
Grint’s casting lands in the middle of an anniversary push.
The franchise is marking 25 years since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone reached theaters in 2001.
All eight films return to theaters starting tomorrow, August 27, through September 3, with Regal having begun its own run Monday. The Sorcerer’s Stone screening carries 12 minutes of never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage.
Back to Hogwarts arrives September 1 with a live showcase promising franchise announcements, plus programming at Universal parks in Orlando, Hollywood, Japan, and Beijing.
And HBO‘s television adaptation premieres Christmas Day on HBO Max, with Nicholas Hoult already cast as Gilderoy Lockhart for a second season.
