Spider-Man: Brand New Day became the fastest film ever to hit $500 million domestically. Doing it in seven days. It’s now 2026’s top movie worldwide at $1.155 billion, beating Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn’t just breaking records anymore. It’s taking the year’s crown off another Disney movie.
Sony and Marvel’s Spidey sequel crossed $500 million at the domestic box office in seven days, the fastest any film has ever done it. That beats the eight days it took Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Brand New Day keeps knocking off the top of these lists.
And with $1.155 billion worldwide, it just passed Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 to become the biggest movie of 2026, period.
The records are piling up fast enough that it’s worth slowing down to sort them.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day passed Toy Story 5 for the year’s box office crown
Here’s the milestone that actually reframes the others.
Until this week, 2026’s highest-grossing movie was Toy Story 5, Disney and Pixar’s billion-dollar summer hit, which has made $1.067 billion since June. Brand New Day blew past it in a week, sitting at $1.155 billion with $449 million domestic and $706 million international.
So the biggest movie of the year is now a Spidey film, and the movie it dethroned is Disney’s own. There’s a small irony in that, since Spider-Man appears in Disney’s Marvel universe but the movies are made and released by Sony. Disney gets to enjoy Spider-Man as an MCU character. Sony gets to cash the checks.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day keeps breaking weekday records
Most blockbusters make their noise on opening weekend and fade during the week. This one is setting records on Mondays and Tuesdays, which almost never happens.
Brand New Day posted the biggest Monday in box office history at $47 million, topping Black Panther‘s 2018 Presidents Day mark. The next day it grabbed the biggest Tuesday ever at $42 million, beating the previous holder, Spider-Man: No Way Home.
It was also the fastest film to $400 million domestically, hitting it in four days. Strong weekdays like these are the sign of a movie with real staying power, not just a front-loaded opening, and they’re what fuel a run at the all-time charts.

The one crown it didn’t take is Endgame‘s global opening weekend, which still stands. Endgame remains the ghost in every one of these stats, the one movie Brand New Day keeps chasing and mostly catching.
Kevin Feige didn’t expect the Endgame record to fall
The people who made it sound a little stunned, which is its own kind of tell.
“I did not expect Endgame’s domestic record to be beat, but I couldn’t be happier that it was beat this past weekend by our 38th MCU movie,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Variety. He called finding himself in this position “overwhelming, frankly, in the very best way.”
Except it is a Sony film more than a Marvel one.
Sony chief Tom Rothman was blunter about what the weekend proved, quipping on opening Sunday, “So I guess movies aren’t dead after all?”
Giving customers what they want sells tickets. It isn’t rocket science.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is heading for $2 billion
The question now isn’t whether Brand New Day is a hit. It’s how high it climbs.
Analysts think it has a real shot at $2 billion worldwide over its full run, a number only seven movies have ever reached. It has strong reviews behind it (90% on Rotten Tomatoes), light competition in the weeks ahead, and it’s already the fourth-fastest of anything.
No Way Home got to $1.9 billion without ever playing China. This one has China from the start, so the ceiling is higher.
Whatever the final number, the summer question got answered somewhere around Spidey’s record Monday. People will still leave the house for a movie. They just want it to be one worth webbing across town for.
