Taco Bell’s new Gordita Crunch Duos put two mini Cheesy Gordita Crunches in one order for $5.49. They landed nationwide Sept. 17, along with the return of the Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Sliders.
Taco Bell took one of its most popular menu items and made it smaller. Then it gave you two.
The new Gordita Crunch Duos rolled out nationwide on Thursday, Sept. 17. Each order comes with two snack-size versions of the Cheesy Gordita Crunch for about $5.49, though prices can vary by location.
They’re here for a limited time.
What comes in Taco Bell’s Gordita Crunch Duos?
Each mini is built like the full-size original, just scaled down.
You get a warm flatbread layered with melted mozzarella, pepper jack and cheddar, wrapped around a crispy white corn shell. Inside, there’s your choice of grilled steak or slow-roasted chicken, plus creamy chipotle sauce, lettuce and pico de gallo.
So it’s the same flavors you already know, in a size that won’t put you down for a nap.
Is the Gordita Crunch Duo in a Taco Bell box?
Yes. The Duos are part of a new $9 Discovery Luxe Box, according to Nation’s Restaurant News.
The box includes:
Two Gordita Crunch Duos
One Doritos Locos Taco
One Crunchy Taco
Chips and nacho cheese sauce
A medium fountain drink
That’s a lot of crunch for nine bucks.
Why is Taco Bell making snack-size menu items?
Taco Bell says it’s about portion size. Liz Matthews, the chain’s global chief innovation officer, told NRN that people want to feel good about what they eat, and that includes “having the right amount.”
There’s a business angle too. Taco Bell has been chasing snack visits, the in-between-meals stops that don’t fit neatly into lunch or dinner. Gen Z, in particular, snacks a lot, and smaller items at lower prices are an easy sell for an afternoon run.
The Cheesy Gordita Crunch has been on the menu for more than 25 years. It has a loyal following. Turning it into a two-pack lets Taco Bell sell it to people who want a taste without committing to a full meal.
What else is new at Taco Bell this week?
The Duos didn’t show up alone.
The Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Sliders also came back on Sept. 17 at participating locations, per Parade. This time they come with Hidden Valley Diablo Ranch sauce, replacing the creamy chipotle and jalapeño honey mustard options from their last run.
And there’s more pink on the way. Olivia Rodrigo‘s pink Baja Blast is set to hit Taco Bell nationwide on Sept. 24.
It’s been a busy stretch for Taco Bell nostalgia fans, too. The Naked Chicken Chalupa, the one with a fried chicken shell instead of a tortilla, came back in August after more than five years off the menu, Dexerto reported.
Put it all together and the menu board is pretty crowded right now. Mini gorditas, chicken sliders, a chalupa made of chicken and a pink soda from a pop star. Taco Bell has never been shy about throwing a lot at the wall.
Are the Gordita Crunch Duos worth it?
That depends on how hungry you are.
If you love the Cheesy Gordita Crunch but don’t always want the full thing, the Duos are a nice middle ground. Two smaller ones also make sharing easier, whether that’s with a friend or a kid in the back seat.
If you’re starving, the original is still on the menu. So is the box, which piles on enough extras to count as dinner.
Either way, don’t wait forever. Taco Bell hasn’t said how long the Duos will stick around.
