Takara Tomy is releasing a Licca-chan Maomao doll from The Apothecary Diaries. She has freckles, arm bandages, and a new hair color the doll line has never used before. It arrives in Japan October 24 at ¥5,500, with a US release planned.
Japan’s most famous fashion doll is becoming a popular anime apothecary.
Takara Tomy announced a collaboration between Licca-chan and The Apothecary Diaries, turning the Licca into Maomao, the female lead of the series.
She will be released in Japan first.
Pre-orders open through Takara Tomy Mall on August 27. The doll releases in Japan on October 24, 2026, priced at ¥5,500 including tax, roughly $37 depending on exchange rates.
Takara Tomy mixed a new hair color for this doll
Licca-chan has been in production since 1967, but Maomao’s hair color is new.
Takara Tomy created a hair color never previously used on a Licca-chan doll specifically to match Maomao’s distinctive shade.

The doll features Maomao’s freckles, the bandage wrapping on her arm, her hairstyle, and her costume from the series. She also has Maomao’s blue eyes.
The timing lines up with the next season
The anime’s third season premieres October 2, 2026.
The doll releases three weeks later.
The theatrical film, The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Consort’s Hidden Treasure, opens December 11.
The franchise has surpassed 57 million copies worldwide, and Takara Tomy’s Apothecary Diaries capsule toys sold out early at Anime Expo 2026.
It’s getting an international release
The doll is planned for several markets beyond Japan, including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, and Canada.
No US release date or price has been announced, so North American fans have to wait for a stateside release.
Licca-chan is expanding overseas
Licca-chan dolls have arrived in North America.
The dolls started to show up in March 2026 at Hot Topic and other retailers.
For decades, the doll was a Japan-focused brand, but Takara Tomy wants to introduce more people worldwide to Japanese culture through the doll.
