Dinner on Halloween just got a lot easier.
Target has two new Halloween-shaped pizzas from its store brand, Market Pantry: one shaped like a ghost and one shaped like a pumpkin. Both cost $6, according to Sporked and Hip2Save.
They showed up in stores last week, just in time for the long stretch of school parties, movie nights and trick-or-treat dinners.
What are Target’s Halloween pizzas?
There are two, and they’re a little different under the pepperoni:
Ghost-Shaped Pizza: Thin crust, pepperoni and mozzarella, 15.14 ounces
Pumpkin-Shaped Pizza: Thin crust, pepperoni and shredded cheddar, 17.45 ounces
Both have Italian herbs and spices, per Sporked. The cheddar is what gives the pumpkin its orange color, which is a clever trick.
Which Target Halloween pizza is the better deal?
The pumpkin. They’re the same $6, but the pumpkin pizza is more than 2 ounces bigger.
Here’s the math:
Ghost: about $6.34 per pound
Pumpkin: about $5.50 per pound
So the pumpkin gives you about 15 percent more pizza for the same price. If you’re feeding a crowd, go pumpkin.
Where are the pizzas at Target?
Sporked says they’re in Target’s prepared foods section, while Target’s website groups them with its frozen pizzas, so check both spots. Hip2Save notes that availability varies by store, so not every Target will have both shapes, and some may not have them at all.
Check the Target app before you make a special trip. It usually shows whether your local store has something in stock.
How do you cut a ghost-shaped pizza?
This is the internet’s big question. One Instagram commenter asked, “Ok but….how am I supposed to cut the ghost pizza?” per Sporked.
It’s a fair point. A ghost has a round head, a wavy bottom and maybe two little arms. Normal pizza slices don’t work.
A few ideas:
Cut it into strips, side to side, like a sheet pizza
Use kitchen scissors, which work better than a pizza cutter on odd shapes
Cut the head off first, then slice the body into squares
Don’t cut it at all and let everyone tear off pieces, which is probably what happens anyway
The pumpkin is easier. It’s basically a circle with a stem, so regular wedges mostly work.
What is Market Pantry at Target?
It’s Target’s budget grocery brand, the label you see on everyday basics like shredded cheese, bread and canned goods. Target’s other food brand, Good & Gather, tends to handle the fancier stuff.
So a Market Pantry holiday pizza is Target keeping it cheap on purpose. It’s meant to be an easy weeknight grab, not a gourmet pie.
Are there other Halloween pizzas this year?
Yes. Shaped pizzas are becoming a whole fall thing. Target also carries a Giacobbino’s Halloween ghost-shaped cheese pizza, according to its website. And plenty of pizza chains roll out jack-o’-lantern pies and Halloween deals every October.
Target’s store-brand version is one of the cheapest at $6, though. That’s less than a lot of delivery fees.
Easy Halloween dinner ideas with Target’s pizzas
If you’re trying to get dinner done before trick-or-treating:
Add black olive “eyes” to the ghost before baking to give it a face
Use pepperoni to make a jack-o’-lantern face on the pumpkin
Serve with orange and black snacks, like carrots and blackberries, to keep the theme going
Bake both and let the kids pick a side, ghosts vs. pumpkins
