The $1 billion Nintendo and Illumination sequel leaves Peacock on Nov. 29 and lands on Netflix the next day, a few days earlier than expected. It stays through September 2027.
Mario is about to make the jump to Netflix.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie starts streaming on Netflix in the U.S. on Monday, Nov. 30, What’s on Netflix reported Wednesday, Oct. 21. That’s the Monday after Thanksgiving weekend.
It’s a little earlier than expected. Forecasts had pointed to early December, like the first movie’s Dec. 3 arrival, according to What’s on Netflix.
Where is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie streaming now?
On Peacock. The movie has been streaming there since July 30, about 120 days after it opened in theaters, What’s on Netflix said.
It leaves Peacock on Nov. 29. Then it moves to Netflix the next day.
That shuffle comes from a long-running licensing deal between Universal Pictures and Netflix. Illumination movies spend four months on Peacock first, then 10 months on Netflix, then four more months back on Peacock.
How long will The Super Mario Galaxy Movie be on Netflix?
About 10 months. Here’s the full schedule, per What’s on Netflix:
Theaters: April 1, 2026.
Peacock: July 30 to Nov. 29, 2026.
Netflix: Nov. 30, 2026, to Sept. 30, 2027.
Back on Peacock: October 2027 through January 2028.
So if your kids want to watch it on repeat over winter break, Netflix will have it the whole time. It’ll still be there for spring break and summer vacation, too.
How did The Super Mario Galaxy Movie do in theaters?
Very well. The sequel crossed $1 billion worldwide after its April 1 opening, What’s on Netflix reported. That makes it 2026’s biggest animated movie so far.
Critics were mixed, but families showed up anyway. The first movie, from 2023, was a record-breaker too, What’s on Netflix noted.
It opened with $131.7 million in the U.S. in April, as PNP reported. That was the year’s biggest domestic opening until Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 topped it in June.
It was also 2026’s first billion-dollar movie, and it pushed the Mario movies past $2 billion combined, as PNP reported in August. It held the No. 1 spot worldwide for three weekends.
Here’s the official trailer, from Illumination:
Who is in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie cast?
Most of the first movie’s voice cast is back, according to What’s on Netflix:
Chris Pratt as Mario.
Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach.
Charlie Day as Luigi.
Jack Black as Bowser.
Keegan-Michael Key as Toad.
Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.
There are two big newcomers. Brie Larson plays Rosalina, and Benny Safdie voices Bowser Jr.
What is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie about?
It takes the world from the 2023 movie and sends it into outer space. It comes from Nintendo and Illumination, the studio behind Despicable Me.
Mario and Luigi are now guardians of the Mushroom Kingdom. Then Bowser Jr. schemes to break his dad out of lockup, which kicks off a chase across the galaxy, as PNP reported when the trailer came out in January.
Yoshi makes his full big-screen debut, too. Rosalina looks after the little star creatures called Lumas.
The movie also has post-credits teasers that point to more Nintendo movies on the way, What’s on Netflix noted.
Can you watch The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Netflix outside the U.S.?
It depends on where you live. International streaming rights for Illumination movies run on separate schedules, What’s on Netflix said.
Some places, including Australia and South Korea, could get it between late October and November. Netflix UK usually gets Illumination movies about two years after theaters, which would mean early 2028.
Most of Latin America, Europe and Asia will get it in waves between 2027 and 2029, What’s on Netflix said.
Is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie good for kids?
It’s built for families. Like the first movie, it’s full of Nintendo characters kids already know from the games.
Right after Thanksgiving weekend, a new Mario movie on Netflix could make for an easy family movie night. Just make sure the popcorn is ready by Nov. 30.
