Toy Story 5 hits digital August 18 and 4K Blu-ray September 22
Disney and Pixar’s billion-dollar Toy Story 5 comes home, arriving on digital August 18 and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD September 22. The bonus features include a deleted scene reuniting Jessie with Emily, her original owner from Toy Story 2.
Toy Story 5 is coming home, and it’s bringing one emotional deleted scene that longtime fans are going to want to sit down for.
Disney and Pixar announced the home release dates for their billion-dollar hit. It arrives on digital platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home, on August 18, then on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 22.
After grossing more than $1 billion worldwide since June, the movie heads home loaded with bonus features. And one of them is a genuine gut-punch.
The Toy Story 5 deleted scene reunites Jessie and Emily
Here’s the bonus feature that got fans talking the moment it surfaced.
Among the deleted scenes is one where Jessie reunites with Emily, her original owner. If that name hits you somewhere tender, it should. Emily is the little girl from Toy Story 2‘s “When She Loved Me” sequence, the montage of Jessie being loved and then outgrown that has been making people cry for 25 years.
In the deleted scene, Emily is now a grandmother. It’s the kind of quiet, devastating full-circle beat Pixar does better than anyone, and it apparently didn’t make the final cut. Now it’s a reason to buy the disc.

The digital and physical releases come with a full slate of extras. The featurettes:
The Toys Are Back in Town: filmmakers, cast, and crew on the new adventure
Casting Playtime: the new voice cast, including Conan O’Brien and Greta Lee
50 Buzzes and The Great Escape: a breakdown of one of the movie’s biggest scenes
The Lost Toys: characters that got cut, with early designs and ideas
There’s also a gag reel, plus five deleted scenes introduced by director Andrew Stanton and co-director Kenna Harris. The deleted scenes and the gag reel are on the digital and Blu-ray versions.
The Toy Story 5 collector editions and bundles
For collectors, September 22 is the date that matters, and there are a few options:
A limited-edition 4K SteelBook featuring Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and Bullseye alongside the new tech characters Lilypad and Smarty Pants
A 2-movie collection in 4K pairing the original Toy Story with Toy Story 5
A 5-movie collection with the whole series
The 5-movie set is DVD-only, no Blu-ray version, which is a slightly odd choice for a franchise whose fans skew toward wanting the best possible picture. Collectors have already noticed.
There’s also a soundtrack, available on vinyl and CD, featuring the movie’s original song “I Knew It, I Knew You.”
When Toy Story 5 comes to Disney+
No streaming date has been set yet. That’s standard Disney strategy, the company typically holds off on announcing or promoting a Disney+ release until the digital purchase-and-rental window has run for a while, to push those digital sales first.
Based on how Disney usually handles it, a Disney+ arrival likely lands a couple of months after the digital release, but nothing’s confirmed. So if you want Toy Story 5 before the holidays and don’t want to wait and guess, the August 18 digital release is the sure thing.
The gang competing with a tablet for Bonnie’s attention was the plot that made a billion dollars. Now it’s the movie night you can actually schedule. Just maybe have tissues ready for that Emily scene.
