What is Toy Story 5: The Great Toy Rescue in Fortnite?
It’s a Fortnite experience built inside Bonnie’s bedroom, shrunk down to toy size. Furniture becomes terrain, and the room works as your home base.
A rift opens and scatters six toys across other islands. Your job is to go get them.

How do you play The Great Toy Rescue?
Each toy has its own challenge, and each one lives on a different creator-made island, per D23:
Forky, collect paperclips
Hamm, collect coins
Woody, gather crayons in two-person squads
Rex, repair a necklace
Jessie, collect Bullseye’s horseshoes
Buzz Lightyear, collect batteries, with some climbing involved
You travel with jet packs and other Fortnite tools. There are also collectibles hidden around, including Buzz figures and memories, plus a photo booth for pictures with the toys.
Is The Great Toy Rescue free?
Yes. The experience is free to play in Fortnite, and the rewards are XP and in-game abilities.
There are no new skins to buy as part of it, which is a change from Fortnite’s earlier Buzz Lightyear and Zurg outfits.
Why is this Toy Story Fortnite event a big deal?
Because of how it’s built. D23 says it’s “the first time Disney and Pixar have connected a Disney-branded adventure across multiple participating creator-made islands.”
In plain English: instead of one Disney island, this one sends you out to islands built by other Fortnite creators and ties them together into a single story.
Disney’s official Toy Story account put it more simply: “Uh-oh… the toys are missing! Join The Great Toy Rescue, complete challenges across Fortnite to unlock rewards, and help bring them home.”
When is Toy Story 5 coming to Disney+?
Wednesday, Sept. 23. The movie hit theaters this summer and made about $1.1 billion worldwide, Deadline reported.
So the Fortnite event gives fans something to do the day before it lands on streaming.
What other Disney stuff is in Fortnite?
Quite a lot lately. In August, Disney launched Star Wars: Smugglers Gambit, a Fortnite mission built by Disney’s own games team and tied to the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride at the parks.
Before that, Fortnite has had Marvel seasons, Star Wars items, a Darth Vader with an AI-powered voice, The Simpsons and, this month, Kingdom Hearts characters.
Is this part of Disney’s Epic Games deal?
It fits right into it. Disney put $1.5 billion into Epic Games in February 2024, with plans for a whole Disney universe connected to Fortnite.
That bigger world hasn’t launched yet, and Disney and Epic haven’t given a date. A Disney tile did show up in a redesigned Fortnite launcher in an Epic video this week, though, so the pieces keep appearing.
How long do you have to play The Great Toy Rescue?
Until Oct. 5, which gives you about two weeks.
