Toy Story 5 Villain Will Be A Leap Pad?
Disney / Pixar will be releasing the new “Toy Story 5” film on June 19, 2026. Now we know who the villain of the next film will be, a Leap Pad adjacent character called Lillypad.
For those that don’t remember the Leap Pad debuted in 1999 but gained popularity in the early 2000s.
Made by Leap Frog, whose logo is a frog, the early Leap Pads were green. My son had one when he was little and that is why my mind went to the Leap Pad when I saw the Lillypad.
Technology is the big bad in Toy Story 5.
According to a presentation at Annecy and International animation festival, Pixar CCO Pete Docter gave a look at the new film and said that the plot will be toys meeting tech.
Bonnie Anderson will once again be the child of the film. She is now 8 years old and uses a tablet called Lillypad.
It’s a film about the shift in childhood play from toys to tech that we have seen happen a lot over the last twenty years or so.
When kids started being given Smart Phones and tablets like iPads they played less with toys and more inside with digital games.
I noticed a full shift when my kids got their first iPad Minis years ago.
Not long after, their schools started pushing iPads in the classroom and now we have the “iPad generation.”
A digital tablet for kids makes sense as the next step up for Toy Story villains.
“Toy Story 5” will see the return of Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear), and Joan Cussack (Jessie). Combat Carl will now be voiced by Ernie Hudson after the original voice actor, Carl Weathers passed away.
The new film is being directed by Andrew Stanton and McKenna Harris. Jessica Choi is the producer.
