Trader Joe’s just added 9 new stores, and one might be opening near you
The cult grocer named locations in eight states, part of a plan to open 21 stores in six months. Here’s the full list, plus the $2.99 striped tote that broke the internet again.
Trader Joe’s is in the middle of a growth spurt, and the latest batch of stores spreads the soup dumplings and the two-buck snacks into nine more neighborhoods.
The chain just added nine locations to its “coming soon” list, scattered across eight states. No opening dates yet, which is standard for TJ’s, but every spot is locked in and the addresses are public.
Where the new Trader Joe’s stores are opening
Here’s the full rundown, one per state except New York, which is getting two.
Phoenix, Arizona — 21001 North Tatum Blvd.
Sarasota, Florida — 8199 S. Tamiami Trail
Chicago, Illinois — 804 West Montrose Ave.
Quincy, Massachusetts
Farmington Hills, Michigan
Syracuse, New York
Yonkers, New York
University Heights, Ohio
West Jordan, Utah
Trader Joe’s hasn’t committed to exact dates for any of them. The move, as always, is to check the individual “coming soon” page for whichever store is closest and watch for the opening announcement.
This is part of a much bigger push
Nine stores is just the slice you can see this week.
A company representative told People that these nine are part of a plan to open 21 stores across 13 states over the next six months. That’s on top of a separate batch of 18 stores in 12 states the chain announced back in spring, four of which already opened their doors last week in Tucson, New Orleans, West Palm Beach, and Johns Creek.
Add it up and Trader Joe’s has more than two dozen stores either open or under construction in the first half of 2026 alone.
For a chain that opened 43 stores last year, that pace isn’t slowing. Trader Joe’s now runs locations in more than 40 states, with only a short holdout list left, including Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, and the Dakotas.
The $2.99 tote that broke the internet (again)
Of course, the stores are only half of what TJ’s fans are talking about right now. The other half costs less than three dollars.
After months of online speculation, the grocer dropped its striped mini tote bags on June 17, the follow-up to the canvas minis that turned into resale-market gold last year and had people lining up at open. The new ones come in pink, blue, green, and tan stripes, run $2.99, and measure a compact 13 by 11 by 6 inches, with side pockets sized for a phone or wallet.
It’s the same pattern every time with these bags. A rumor starts online, shoppers convince themselves the next design is coming, the skeptics call it a hoax, and then the things sell out the morning they hit shelves. If a new store on that list above is opening near you, the tote situation is one more reason to get there early.
