Disney Channel’s Twitches premiered Oct. 14, 2005, and Twitches Too followed in 2007. Here’s the story behind Tia and Tamera Mowry’s witch movies, and what they’ve said about a Twitches 3.
Before they were Disney Channel witches, Tia and Tamera Mowry were already famous twins, thanks to the sitcom “Sister, Sister.”
So when Disney Channel cast them as long-lost twin sisters with magic powers, it was a perfect fit. Twitches premiered in October 2005 and turned into one of the network’s biggest Halloween hits.
It got a sequel, Twitches Too, in 2007. Fans have been asking for a third one ever since, and both sisters say they’re in.
Here’s the story behind both movies, and where Twitches 3 stands.
What is Twitches about?
Alex and Camryn are twin sisters born in a magical kingdom called Coventry, according to D23, Disney’s official fan club. They’re separated shortly after birth and sent to Earth to escape an evil force.
Their wizard father gives each twin a protector, Ileana and Karsh. Then the girls are adopted and raised in very different homes, D23 says.
They finally meet on their 21st birthday and learn they both have mysterious powers. They set out to find their birth mother and soon find out they’re the only hope to save Coventry from the forces of Darkness, according to D23.
Tia Mowry plays Alex, and Tamera Mowry plays Camryn. Kristen Wilson plays Miranda, and Patrick Fabian plays Thantos, D23 says. Stuart Gillard directed.
The movie was based on a popular teen book series by H.B. Gilmour and Randi Reisfeld, Kidscreen reported.
When did Twitches come out?
It premiered on Disney Channel on Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, according to D23.
It was a huge hit for the network. Twitches drew about 7 million viewers when it premiered, according to Kidscreen and Multichannel News. Kidscreen called it the top basic cable movie of 2005.
That week, the premiere was the highest-rated show on cable, with a 5.3 household rating, Multichannel News reported. Across its first four airings, it reached about 21.5 million total viewers.
Disney Channel shared this clip from the movie:
What is Twitches Too about?
Twitches Too premiered on Oct. 12, 2007, according to D23.
Now that they know they’re twin sisters and princesses, Alex and Camryn are still getting used to their powers, D23 says. Camryn embraces royal life in Coventry, while Alex wants to start college like a normal person.
The Darkness is still a threat. And the sisters find clues that their missing father, Aaron, might still be alive, according to D23.
Stuart Gillard directed the sequel, too, and most of the main cast came back, D23 says.
Kristen Wilson returned as Miranda, Pat Kelly as Karsh and Patrick Fabian as Thantos. New faces included Jackie Rosenbaum as Beth Fish, Chris Gallinger as Demitri and Kevin Jubinville as the twins’ father, Aaron, according to D23.
How many people watched Twitches Too?
A lot. Twitches Too drew 6.9 million viewers in its premiere, Multichannel News reported in 2007.
That was just shy of the original’s premiere audience. It also drew more than a third of all available kids ages 6 to 11, according to Multichannel News.

Will there be a Twitches 3?
Nothing has been announced. But the Mowry sisters keep saying they want to do it.
Back in 2020, Tamera said during an Instagram Live that she and Tia had been “kind of like working on a Twitches 3, kind of, a situation,” PureWow reported.
In October 2025, around the original’s 20th anniversary, Tamera told TV Insider she’s still interested. “I mean, I would love to. I would love to,” she said.
She added a note of caution: “I think there are a lot of things that would have to align.”
Tia sounded ready in December 2025.
“It’s Disney. Come on, Disney. You guys have a yes from me; you have a yes from Tamera. So, let’s do it, Disney!” she told Entertainment Tonight, as The Blast reported.
So the twins are on board. Now it’s up to Disney.
Where can you watch Twitches?
Both movies are streaming on Disney+, according to JustWatch. You can also rent or buy them digitally from Amazon and Fandango at Home.
What are some fun facts about Twitches?
The twins played twins, again. Tia and Tamera Mowry were already famous for playing separated-at-birth twins on “Sister, Sister,” so Twitches was a magical twist on a familiar idea.
The movie runs 86 minutes, according to D23.
The sequel came fast. Disney Channel was already developing Twitches Too by April 2007, Kidscreen reported, and it premiered that October.
The sisters have ideas for the next one. Tia has said she’d like a Twitches 3 that focuses on the sisters as parents guiding their own kids, PureWow reported. “We’re passing the mantle on to [our daughters],” she said.
