The Bachelorette alum left the Dancing with the Stars skybox on live TV after a 26 out of 40, then went home in a double elimination. Here’s what he said on TikTok.
Tyler Cameron didn’t wait around for the ending. On Tuesday’s Horror Movie Night episode of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, the former Bachelorette runner-up got up and left the skybox while co-host Julianne Hough was still live on air, People reported.
His partner, Sharna Burgess, tried to keep him there. It didn’t work. A little later, Cameron and Burgess went home in a double elimination with Jackson Olson and Emma Slater.
By Wednesday, “tyler cameron walks off dwts” was one of the top searches on Google in the U.S. Cameron had already posted a TikTok with Burgess, and he didn’t dodge it.
“Not my proudest moment,” he said.
Why did Tyler Cameron walk off Dancing with the Stars?
He says he thought the cameras were done with him. “When I was upstairs, getting my scores, I thought we were done filming. I needed to step away from it all,” Cameron said in the TikTok, as quoted by People.
The scores were the gut punch. The pair danced a Viennese waltz to Annie Lennox’s “Love Song for a Vampire,” a nod to Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough each gave it a 7. Guest judge Shirley Ballas gave it a 5. That’s 26 out of 40.
“It was boom or bust at that point, we needed to have a great score or we were out of this competition,” Cameron said, per People.
Here’s the dance itself, from the show’s official YouTube channel:
What did Tyler Cameron say about the walk-off?
The TikTok sounds like a guy who slept on it, or at least tried to. “I was heartbroken. And that’s real and raw,” he said.
Then came the apology. “I’m sorry that I let my emotions get the best of me earlier,” Cameron said, according to People. “But it came out of a place of love and passion, and it was tough.”
ABC, the producers and the hosts haven’t said anything public about the walk-off that we could find.
What did Sharna Burgess say about the scores?
Burgess sat next to him in the video and went to bat for her guy. “Literally every bit of technique that got called out is everything that we’ve been working on all week,” she said, per People.
She didn’t love the numbers, either. “I think your score should not have been 7’s,” Burgess told him. “You didn’t let anyone down.”
Why were two couples eliminated on Horror Movie Night?
Nobody went home the week before, on Dedication Night. So the judges’ scores and viewer votes from both nights counted together, and two couples left.
Cameron and Burgess finished the two nights with 58 out of 80, last of the 10 couples, according to ABC7 New York and the Deseret News. Olson and Slater scored 35 on Tuesday alone and still went home.
That’s seven weeks in the ballroom for a guy most people met on reality TV. Cameron was the runner-up on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette in 2019, so he knows a thing or two about going home on a Tuesday night.
What’s next for Tyler Cameron after DWTS?
A nursery, mostly. Cameron and fiancee Tate Madden shared on Dedication Night, Oct. 20, that they’re expecting a baby girl. He told E! News she’s due in March, Wealth of Geeks reported.
“I have a special woman in my life now, I’m very lucky,” he said on air after the results, per the Deseret News.
When is Disney Night on Dancing with the Stars?
Next week the show moves to Monday. Disney Night airs Monday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+, with Wicked star Cynthia Erivo as guest judge. ABC is covering Election Day on Nov. 3.
Eight couples are left, including Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson, Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskiy, and Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa. The finale is Tuesday, Nov. 24.
Burgess, for her part, already has a Mirror Ball at home. She won Season 27 with Bobby Bones, low scores and all.
