The eight-member K-pop girl group will end its activities as a full group on Saturday, Sept. 26, when its contract with F&F Entertainment runs out. The agency announced it Sept. 22.
A day later, on Sept. 23, Unis released a digital single called “Milky Way.” It’s the last song they’ll put out together.
Why is Unis disbanding?
The contract ran out and it isn’t being renewed.
Unis signed a deal that ran two years and six months from its 2024 debut. As it neared the end, the group and the company discussed the future, and Philstar reported those talks “fell apart.”
F&F’s statement said the company had “ultimately decided to conclude Unis’s official activities as a full group.” It thanked the members for “countless performances and precious moments under the name Unis” and said it would support them in “their respective paths.”
The statement doesn’t say what the members will do next. Some K-pop groups come back years later under a new agency. Nothing like that has been announced here.
What is Unis’s final single Milky Way about?
Distance, and not treating a breakup as final.
Per Soompi, the song uses the Milky Way as a picture of staying connected across a long gap. Members Hyeonju, Nana, Elisia and Yoona helped write the lyrics, which frame the split as “a pause” instead of a goodbye.
It came out at 6 p.m. Korea time, which was 5 a.m. on the East Coast.
Who are the members of Unis?
Eight members from three countries.
Hyeonju, the leader, Filipino-Korean. She debuted earlier as Belle in the group Cignature.
Elisia and Gehlee, both from the Philippines
Nana and Kotoko, both from Japan
Yunha, Seowon and Yoona, all from Korea
That’s three members with Filipino roots, which made Unis a big deal in the Philippines. Philstar’s headline on the news led with it.
How did Unis form?
On TV. The group came out of Universe Ticket, an SBS survival show that ran from November 2023 to January 2024.
The name has two meanings built in, per the group’s own explanation: “U&I Story” and “UNiverse Is Starting.” Both fit a group put together on a show called Universe Ticket.
Unis debuted March 27, 2024, with the EP We Unis and the song “Superwoman.” The single album Curious followed that August, and Billboard Philippines named “Curious” one of its 50 best songs of 2024.
What were Unis’s biggest moments?
The first music show win took a while. It came on Show Champion on April 23, 2025, for “Swicy,” from the EP of the same name.
Unis toured Asia in 2025, with stops in Seoul, Tokyo and Osaka, then took its first Americas tour, Ever Last, to more than 15 cities starting in January 2026. The group put out a Japanese release, UNI Sparkle!, as recently as July 31.
Along the way the group picked up a MAMA Awards Fans’ Choice honor in 2024, and the Recording Academy’s Grammy site put Unis on a list of 12 rising girl groups to know.
That’s a lot for a group that lasted about two and a half years. Unis fans, who call themselves EverAfter, got a farewell song before the lights went out, which is more than a lot of groups get.
