Universal, Guest Settle Stardust Racers Injury Lawsuit Just Days After It Was Filed
Universal City Development Partners Ltd. has reached a settlement with a guest who alleged she was injured on Stardust Racers at Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe, resolving the case only days after it was filed, according to Orange County court records. The complaint, which sought more than $50,000 in damages, stemmed from an April 30 ride incident. A “Notice of Settlement” and a “Voluntary Dismissal” were posted to the docket on Friday.
Allegations in the complaint
The lawsuit stated the woman, described as a lawful business invitee, experienced violent head movement during the coaster ride, repeatedly striking the seat’s headrest and causing permanent injuries. The filing accused Universal of failing to maintain the attraction in a reasonably safe condition, inadequately warning riders of potential hazards, and operating the coaster “without providing its riders with any head restraints.”
Ride status and technical details
Stardust Racers—a dual-launch coaster featuring twists, turns, and intertwined racing tracks—reaches heights up to 133 feet, covers roughly 4,800 feet of track, and tops out at 62 mph. The attraction remains closed as investigations continue.
This case comes after the recent death of 32-year-old Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, on September 17. Zavala became unresponsive after riding Stardust Racers and later died at a hospital. The medical examiner ruled the death an accident caused by “multiple blunt impact injuries.”
Court filings did not disclose settlement terms, and neither side has publicly commented on the agreement.
