Video Showing Splash Mountain Mid-Demolition Has Surfaced
Splash Mountain Historical Society on X has just posted links and images from a video that was taken mid-demolition of Splash Mountain.
The account is claiming that Disney’s goal was to completely destroy the attraction and that animatronics were not properly removed.
The video in question comes from an account on YouTube that claims they did not take the video but are sharing it.
It is unclear if they worked on the project or somehow just got inside it. But they do seem to know where to go and where the steps are.
We do not know what happened to the animatronics from Splash Mountain.
One would hope that they were preserved, but given the fact that Disney tried for years to get it converted to a “Princess and the Frog” attraction, the timing of the announcement, and the campaign to label anyone who didn’t want it changed a “racist,” I wouldn’t be surprised if they did, in fact, destroy them or use them for parts.
As for fans being upset that it was destroyed, that usually happens during a retheme. Some parts are reused, but most of it is destroyed for the new version.
However, the comment that “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure” is “empty dark caves” and minimal “detailed sets” is also true.
Many joked that most of the decor was fake plants from Hobby Lobby.
The real crime with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is that they didn’t add Dr. Facilier and make the drop lead to “The Other Side.”
It’s a tragedy that so much of this was seemingly mishandled, but it is kind of cool to see a Disney attraction in mid-demolition. Even if it is also kind of sad.
I sincerely hope they preserved at least a couple of animatronics.
