A video shows flames and smoke beneath the PeopleMover track in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland as cast members guide guests away. It’s not the first smoke or fire scare on the ride.
Smoke and flames showed up beneath one of Magic Kingdom’s most relaxing rides again.
A video posted to Instagram by The Florida Pickers shows an open flame and rising smoke under the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover track at Magic Kingdom, Inside the Magic reported Sunday, Nov. 8. The video was posted over the weekend.
No injuries were reported, and Disney hasn’t shared what caused the fire.
What happened at the Magic Kingdom PeopleMover?
The footage shows a fire beneath the ride’s elevated track in Tomorrowland, with smoke drifting through the area, according to Inside the Magic. What exactly caught fire is still unclear.
Cast members stepped in and led guests through the underpass beneath the track, away from the flames, the outlet reported.
Is the PeopleMover still running?
It appears so. The video doesn’t seem to show damage to the ride. “Currently here. People Mover is movin along just fine,” one commenter wrote, according to Inside the Magic.
Disney hasn’t announced any closure.
What are people saying about the PeopleMover fire?
Many comments focused on how calm the crowd seemed. “Someone needs to study how people respond to fires in Disney,” one commenter wrote, according to Inside the Magic.
Another shared a different Disney fire alarm story and said “literally no one moved a muscle.”
One person floated a theory about the cause. “Maybe from the birds’ nests there?” the commenter wrote, adding they’d seen nests while waiting in line. That idea hasn’t been confirmed.
Others kept it light. “Yikes! If everyone is ok, get a people mover pin for the memory,” one wrote.
Has the PeopleMover caught fire before?
This isn’t the first time. In June 2026, a viral TikTok appeared to show a small fire or spark event near the PeopleMover track while guests watched, Inside the Magic reported. Disney didn’t comment at the time.
On Jan. 2, 2020, guests were moved off the PeopleMover after its boarding area filled with smoke, Fox 35 Orlando reported. Reedy Creek Fire Rescue found smoke but no fire. One guest said a cast member used a fire extinguisher on the exit ramp. The ride reopened that evening.
Did Space Mountain have a fire scare too?
Yes. In February 2022, fire alarms at Space Mountain led to evacuations, and the PeopleMover closed because its track runs through the building, Inside the Magic reported. Firefighters traced the alarm to a smoking refrigerator in a break room. There was no actual fire.
What is the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover?
A slow, elevated ride that tours Tomorrowland, including a trip through Space Mountain. It opened on July 1, 1975, as the WEDway PeopleMover and got its current name in 1994, according to Inside the Magic.
It’s a fan favorite for its breeze, short lines and relaxing views.
Who handles fires at Walt Disney World?
The fire district that serves Disney World, formerly known as Reedy Creek Fire Rescue, responds to emergencies on property. It’s now part of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.
What should guests do if they see smoke or fire at Disney?
Move away from the area and follow cast members’ directions. Tell a cast member right away, and call 911 in an emergency. Don’t stop to film close to flames or smoke.
Has Disney said what caused the fire?
Not yet. Disney hadn’t released a statement about the cause as of Sunday, according to Inside the Magic.
