A limited-edition Cinderella doll marking 55 years goes on sale Sept. 7.
Walt Disney World opened Oct. 1, 1971.
It turns 55 in 27 days, and so far the celebration consists of a doll.
A Cinderella Limited Edition Doll, designed specifically to honor 55 years of the resort, goes on sale Sept. 7 at 8 a.m. PT.
What Disney has announced for the 55th anniversary
The Cinderella doll is the only item explicitly tied to the anniversary that has been announced.
Disney has not announced a park celebration, a new nighttime spectacular, castle decorations, or a marketing campaign around the milestone.
That may change. Disney frequently holds announcements until closer to a date, and the company has an entire showcase’s worth of parks news still rolling out from D23.
How the 55th compares to the 50th
Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary ran for 18 months, from October 2021 into March 2023, under the banner “The World’s Most Magical Celebration.”
It brought new nighttime shows, EARidescent castle decor, a resort-wide merchandise line, and the Fab 50 golden character statues installed across all four parks.
Those statues are still standing. The Play Disney Parks app that let guests track finding all 50 of them shuts down Sept. 16, though waving a MagicBand+ at the statues will still trigger their audio effects.
Milestone anniversaries at Disney parks have historically clustered on multiples of five and ten, with the larger investment reserved for the round numbers.
What else Disney is releasing in September
Seven collections have dated drops this month.
Lightning McQueen merchandise arrives Sept. 5, tomorrow, including 20th anniversary items, popcorn buckets and apparel. That timing is deliberate, since the character races under number 95 and Disney has built Lightning McQueen Day around 9/5.
“Cars” also returns to theaters for its 20th anniversary in step with it.
A Disney Men’s Outerwear Collection launches online Sept. 7, the same day as the Cinderella doll.
The Mickey Mouse Home Collection follows Sept. 8.
The Halloween and holiday items already dropped
Two seasonal releases landed earlier this week.
Mickey and Minnie Light-Up and Sound Jack-o’-Lanterns went online Sept. 2 at 8 a.m. PT. Each glows and produces sound.
The LEGO Marvel Advent Calendar arrived Sept. 1. It runs 317 pieces across 24 days, with figures of Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Doom, Ghost Spider, Captain America and Wolverine, each with accessories.
It also includes a Christmas tree built from green Wolverine claws, which is either inspired or unhinged depending on your tolerance.
What Walt Disney World actually has coming
The anniversary lands in the middle of the resort’s busiest construction period in years.
Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge opens July 1, 2027 with 967 rooms on Bay Lake, with bookings starting Oct. 6.
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress reopens in late spring 2027 with the resort’s first Walt Disney animatronic. Tropical Americas arrives at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2027.
Piston Peak, Villains Land and Monstropolis are all under construction with no announced dates.
What is closing around the anniversary
Two attractions go down near the date.
The Walt Disney World Railroad closes Sept. 28 and is expected back in November. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure closes Nov. 2 for its first refurbishment since opening.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs select nights through Oct. 31, and Oct. 1 is one of the party nights.
The 55th arrives quietly, on a Thursday, in the middle of construction walls and Halloween decorations. Disney has 27 days to announce otherwise.
