Wingstop’s Lemon Pepper Trio adds Lemon Pepper Chili Crunch and Lemon Pepper Chili Glaze, now nationwide for a limited time. Its first Wing Pass offered 18 weeks of wings for $27.99, but only 100 were made.
Wingstop is putting a spicy spin on its most famous flavor.
The chain’s new Lemon Pepper Trio went nationwide on Sept. 15 for a limited time. It pairs the classic Original Lemon Pepper with two new versions that bring some heat.
Club Wingstop members got early access on Sept. 10.
What are the new Wingstop lemon pepper flavors?
The Trio, in Wingstop’s own words:
Original Lemon Pepper: “Zesty lemon and cracked black pepper,” the dry rub fans already know
Lemon Pepper Chili Crunch: the lemon pepper dry rub finished with a crispy Korean chili crunch for texture and “a lingering kick”
Lemon Pepper Chili Glaze: a bright, citrusy glaze with sweet heat, topped with the same Korean chili crunch
So you’ve got a dry option, a crunchy option and a saucy option. The two new ones both lean on chili crunch, which has been showing up on menus everywhere lately.
What is Korean chili crunch?
Chili crunch is a spoonable topping made from dried chili flakes cooked in oil, usually with crunchy bits like fried garlic or shallots mixed in. It’s spicy, a little savory and, as the name says, crunchy.
Korean-style versions lean on red pepper flakes like the ones used in kimchi. The heat is real, but it tends to build slowly instead of punching you in the face.
On a wing, it adds texture that a plain dry rub can’t. That’s the whole point of the two new flavors.
Why is lemon pepper such a big deal at Wingstop?
Lemon pepper is Wingstop’s signature, and the chain knows it.
“Lemon Pepper is an iconic flavor, and Wingstop is proud of the role we’ve played in bringing it to fans around the world,” CEO Michael Skipworth said.
Lemon pepper wings have a huge following, especially in Atlanta, where they’re practically a local food group. Wingstop, which started in Garland, Texas, in 1994, helped take that flavor national.
Adding spicy versions is a low-risk move. Fans who already order lemon pepper get something new, and heat seekers get a reason to try it.
What is the Wingstop Wing Pass?
Wingstop also sold its first-ever Wing Pass for $27.99.
The pass included:
Up to 18 Watch Party Bundles, one per week of the NFL season
Each bundle comes with 20 classic wings in up to four flavors, a large fry and a large ranch
New bundle offers land in the Wingstop app every Sunday morning for 18 weeks
That’s potentially 360 wings for less than 30 bucks.
Can you still buy a Wingstop Wing Pass?
Probably not. Wingstop made only 100 passes.
They went on sale Sept. 10 at noon Central on WingShop, Wingstop’s online merch store, and only Club Wingstop members could buy them. With that math, it’s safe to assume they didn’t last long.
If you missed it, the Lemon Pepper Trio is still the easy win. You don’t need a pass to order it.
How long is the Wingstop Lemon Pepper Trio available?
Wingstop says it’s a limited-time offer but hasn’t set an end date.
Since the whole thing is built around football season, it’s a fair bet it sticks around for at least part of the fall. Still, limited-time flavors can vanish fast, so if you want to try the Chili Crunch or the Chili Glaze, sooner beats later.
One tip: join Club Wingstop if you haven’t. It’s how members got the early crack at both the Trio and the Wing Pass, and it’s usually where the next deal shows up first.
